爱父母过于爱我的，不配作我的门徒；爱儿女过于爱我的，不配作我的门徒；

爱惜自己生命的，就失丧生命；在这世上恨恶自己生命的，就要保守生命到永生。

不但如此，我也将万事当作有损的，因我以认识我主基督耶稣为至宝。我为他已经丢弃万事，看作粪土，为要得着基督；

我却不以性命为念，也不看为宝贵，只要行完我的路程，成就我从主耶稣所领受的职事，证明神恩惠的福音。

除你以外，在天上我有谁呢？除你以外，在地上我也没有所爱慕的。我的肉体和我的心肠衰残；但神是我心里的力量，又是我的福分，直到永远。

弟兄胜过它，是因羔羊的血和自己所见证的道。他们虽至于死，也不爱惜性命。

“你的同胞弟兄，或是你的儿女，或是你怀中的妻，或是如同你性命的朋友，若暗中引诱你，说：‘我们不如去侍奉你和你列祖素来所不认识的别神，是你四围列国的神。’无论是离你近，离你远，从地这边到地那边的神，你不可依从他，也不可听从他，眼不可顾惜他。你不可怜恤他，也不可遮庇他，

他论自己的父母说：我未曾看见；他也不承认弟兄，也不认识自己的儿女。这是因利未人遵行你的话，谨守你的约。

我所以恨恶生命；因为在日光之下所行的事我都以为烦恼，都是虚空，都是捕风。我恨恶一切的劳碌，就是我在日光之下的劳碌，因为我得来的必留给我以后的人。那人是智慧是愚昧，谁能知道？他竟要管理我劳碌所得的，就是我在日光之下用智慧所得的。这也是虚空。

雅各也与拉结同房，并且爱拉结胜似爱利亚，于是又服侍了拉班七年。耶和华见利亚失宠，就使她生育，拉结却不生育。

甚至我宁肯噎死，宁肯死亡，胜似留我这一身的骨头。我厌弃性命，不愿永活。你任凭我吧，因我的日子都是虚空。

耶和华说：“我曾爱你们。”你们却说：“你在何事上爱我们呢？”耶和华说：“以扫不是雅各的哥哥吗？我却爱雅各，恶以扫，使他的山岭荒凉，把他的地业交给旷野的野狗。”

正如经上所记：雅各是我所爱的；以扫是我所恶的。

“人若有二妻，一为所爱，一为所恶，所爱的、所恶的都给他生了儿子，但长子是所恶之妻生的。
