愛父母過於愛我的，不配作屬我的；愛兒女過於愛我的，不配作屬我的；

愛惜自己生命的，就喪掉生命；在這世上恨惡自己生命的，必會保全生命到永遠。

不但這樣，我也把萬事當作是有損的，因為我以認識我主基督耶穌為至寶。為了他，我把萬事都拋棄了，看作廢物，為了要得著基督。

但我並不珍惜自己的性命，只求跑完我的路程，完成我從主耶穌所領受的職分，為神恩惠的福音作見證。

除你以外，在天上，我還有誰呢？除你以外，在地上，我也無所愛慕。我的肉身和我的內心雖然漸漸衰弱，神卻永遠是我心裡的磐石，是我的業分。

弟兄勝過牠，是因著羊羔的血，也因著自己所見證的道，他們雖然至死，也不愛惜自己的性命。

“你的同母兄弟或你的兒女，你懷中的妻子或視你如自己性命的朋友，如果暗中引誘你，說：‘我們去事奉別的神吧。’就是你和你的列祖向來不認識的，是你們周圍各族的神，無論是離你近的，或是離你遠的神；從地這邊直到地那邊的神，你都不可依從他，也不可聽從他；你的眼不可顧惜他，你不可憐憫他，也不可袒護他；

利未人論到自己的父母說：‘我沒有看顧他們’；他不承認自己的兄弟，也不認識自己的兒女；因為他們謹守你的話，持守你的約。

因此我恨惡生命，因為在日光之下所發生的事，都使我厭煩。一切都是虛空，都是捕風。我恨惡我的一切勞碌，就是我在日光之下的勞碌，因為我不得不把勞碌的成果留給後人。那人將來是智是愚，有誰曉得呢？可是他竟要掌管一切我勞碌得來的，就是我在日光之下用智慧得來的。這又是虛空。

雅各也與拉結親近，並且愛拉結勝過愛利亞；於是他再服事了拉班七年。耶和華見利亞失寵，就使她生育，拉結卻不生育。

以致我寧可窒息而死，也不肯保留我這一身的骨頭。我厭惡自己，不願永遠活下去。任憑我吧，因為我的日子都是空虛的。

耶和華說：“我愛你們。”你們卻說：“你怎樣愛了我們呢？”耶和華說：“以掃不是雅各的哥哥嗎？我卻愛雅各，惡以掃。我使以掃的山地荒涼，把他的產業給了曠野的豺狼。”

正如經上所記的：“我愛雅各，卻惡以掃。”

“如果人有兩個妻子，一個是他喜愛的，一個是他不喜愛的，兩個都給他生了兒子；但長子是他不喜愛的妻子生的；
