爱父母过于爱我的，不配作属我的；爱儿女过于爱我的，不配作属我的；

爱惜自己生命的，就丧掉生命；在这世上恨恶自己生命的，必会保全生命到永远。

不但这样，我也把万事当作是有损的，因为我以认识我主基督耶稣为至宝。为了他，我把万事都抛弃了，看作废物，为了要得着基督。

但我并不珍惜自己的性命，只求跑完我的路程，完成我从主耶稣所领受的职分，为神恩惠的福音作见证。

除你以外，在天上，我还有谁呢？除你以外，在地上，我也无所爱慕。我的肉身和我的内心虽然渐渐衰弱，神却永远是我心里的磐石，是我的业分。

弟兄胜过它，是因着羊羔的血，也因着自己所见证的道，他们虽然至死，也不爱惜自己的性命。

“你的同母兄弟或你的儿女，你怀中的妻子或视你如自己性命的朋友，如果暗中引诱你，说：‘我们去事奉别的神吧。’就是你和你的列祖向来不认识的，是你们周围各族的神，无论是离你近的，或是离你远的神；从地这边直到地那边的神，你都不可依从他，也不可听从他；你的眼不可顾惜他，你不可怜悯他，也不可袒护他；

利未人论到自己的父母说：‘我没有看顾他们’；他不承认自己的兄弟，也不认识自己的儿女；因为他们谨守你的话，持守你的约。

因此我恨恶生命，因为在日光之下所发生的事，都使我厌烦。一切都是虚空，都是捕风。我恨恶我的一切劳碌，就是我在日光之下的劳碌，因为我不得不把劳碌的成果留给后人。那人将来是智是愚，有谁晓得呢？可是他竟要掌管一切我劳碌得来的，就是我在日光之下用智慧得来的。这又是虚空。

雅各也与拉结亲近，并且爱拉结胜过爱利亚；于是他再服事了拉班七年。耶和华见利亚失宠，就使她生育，拉结却不生育。

以致我宁可窒息而死，也不肯保留我这一身的骨头。我厌恶自己，不愿永远活下去。任凭我吧，因为我的日子都是空虚的。

耶和华说：“我爱你们。”你们却说：“你怎样爱了我们呢？”耶和华说：“以扫不是雅各的哥哥吗？我却爱雅各，恶以扫。我使以扫的山地荒凉，把他的产业给了旷野的豺狼。”

正如经上所记的：“我爱雅各，却恶以扫。”

“如果人有两个妻子，一个是他喜爱的，一个是他不喜爱的，两个都给他生了儿子；但长子是他不喜爱的妻子生的；
