Jesus called his twelve disciples together and gave them authority to cast out evil spirits and to heal every kind of disease and illness.Here are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon( also called Peter), then Andrew( Peter’s brother), James( son of Zebedee), John( James’s brother),Philip, Bartholomew, Thomas, Matthew( the tax collector), James( son of Alphaeus), Thaddaeus,Simon( the zealot), Judas Iscariot( who later betrayed him).

Wisdom has built her house; she has carved its seven columns.She has prepared a great banquet, mixed the wines, and set the table.She has sent her servants to invite everyone to come. She calls out from the heights overlooking the city.“ Come in with me,” she urges the simple. To those who lack good judgment, she says,“ Come, eat my food, and drink the wine I have mixed.

In those days John the Baptist came to the Judean wilderness and began preaching. His message was,“ Repent of your sins and turn to God, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near.”The prophet Isaiah was speaking about John when he said,“ He is a voice shouting in the wilderness,‘ Prepare the way for the Lord’s coming! Clear the road for him!’”John’s clothes were woven from coarse camel hair, and he wore a leather belt around his waist. For food he ate locusts and wild honey.People from Jerusalem and from all of Judea and all over the Jordan Valley went out to see and hear John.And when they confessed their sins, he baptized them in the Jordan River.But when he saw many Pharisees and Sadducees coming to watch him baptize, he denounced them.“ You brood of snakes!” he exclaimed.“ Who warned you to flee the coming wrath?Prove by the way you live that you have repented of your sins and turned to God.Don’t just say to each other,‘ We’re safe, for we are descendants of Abraham.’ That means nothing, for I tell you, God can create children of Abraham from these very stones.Even now the ax of God’s judgment is poised, ready to sever the roots of the trees. Yes, every tree that does not produce good fruit will be chopped down and thrown into the fire.“ I baptize with water those who repent of their sins and turn to God. But someone is coming soon who is greater than I am— so much greater that I’m not worthy even to be his slave and carry his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.He is ready to separate the chaff from the wheat with his winnowing fork. Then he will clean up the threshing area, gathering the wheat into his barn but burning the chaff with never ending fire.”

“ Brothers, listen! We are here to proclaim that through this man Jesus there is forgiveness for your sins.Everyone who believes in him is made right in God’s sight— something the law of Moses could never do.

And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ. And God has given us this task of reconciling people to him.For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation.So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead,“ Come back to God!”For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.As God’s partners, we beg you not to accept this marvelous gift of God’s kindness and then ignore it.

Peter replied,“ Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.This promise is to you, to your children, and to those far away— all who have been called by the Lord our God.”

“ My Father has entrusted everything to me. No one truly knows the Son except the Father, and no one truly knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.”Then Jesus said,“ Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

“ Starting with Samuel, every prophet spoke about what is happening today.You are the children of those prophets, and you are included in the covenant God promised to your ancestors. For God said to Abraham,‘ Through your descendants all the families on earth will be blessed.’When God raised up his servant, Jesus, he sent him first to you people of Israel, to bless you by turning each of you back from your sinful ways.”

On the last day, the climax of the festival, Jesus stood and shouted to the crowds,“ Anyone who is thirsty may come to me!

“ Brothers— you sons of Abraham, and also you God fearing Gentiles— this message of salvation has been sent to us!

One day Jesus called together his twelve disciples and gave them power and authority to cast out all demons and to heal all diseases.Then he sent them out to tell everyone about the Kingdom of God and to heal the sick.“ Take nothing for your journey,” he instructed them.“ Don’t take a walking stick, a traveler’s bag, food, money, or even a change of clothes.Wherever you go, stay in the same house until you leave town.And if a town refuses to welcome you, shake its dust from your feet as you leave to show that you have abandoned those people to their fate.”

The Lord now chose seventy two other disciples and sent them ahead in pairs to all the towns and places he planned to visit.These were his instructions to them:“ The harvest is great, but the workers are few. So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields.Now go, and remember that I am sending you out as lambs among wolves.Don’t take any money with you, nor a traveler’s bag, nor an extra pair of sandals. And don’t stop to greet anyone on the road.“ Whenever you enter someone’s home, first say,‘ May God’s peace be on this house.’If those who live there are peaceful, the blessing will stand; if they are not, the blessing will return to you.Don’t move around from home to home. Stay in one place, eating and drinking what they provide. Don’t hesitate to accept hospitality, because those who work deserve their pay.“ If you enter a town and it welcomes you, eat whatever is set before you.Heal the sick, and tell them,‘ The Kingdom of God is near you now.’But if a town refuses to welcome you, go out into its streets and say,‘ We wipe even the dust of your town from our feet to show that we have abandoned you to your fate. And know this— the Kingdom of God is near!’I assure you, even wicked Sodom will be better off than such a town on judgment day.

Isaiah had spoken of John when he said,“ He is a voice shouting in the wilderness,‘ Prepare the way for the Lord’s coming! Clear the road for him!The valleys will be filled, and the mountains and hills made level. The curves will be straightened, and the rough places made smooth.And then all people will see the salvation sent from God.’”
