“ Every third year you must offer a special tithe of your crops. Give it to the Levites, who will receive no allotment of land among you, as well as to the foreigners living among you, the orphans, and the widows in your towns, so they can eat and be satisfied. Then the Lord your God will bless you in all your work.

Feed the hungry, and help those in trouble. Then your light will shine out from the darkness, and the darkness around you will be as bright as noon.

Jesus saw the huge crowd as he stepped from the boat, and he had compassion on them and healed their sick.That evening the disciples came to him and said,“ This is a remote place, and it’s already getting late. Send the crowds away so they can go to the villages and buy food for themselves.”But Jesus said,“ That isn’t necessary— you feed them.”“ But we have only five loaves of bread and two fish!” they answered.“ Bring them here,” he said.Then he told the people to sit down on the grass. Jesus took the five loaves and two fish, looked up toward heaven, and blessed them. Then, breaking the loaves into pieces, he gave the bread to the disciples, who distributed it to the people.They all ate as much as they wanted, and afterward, the disciples picked up twelve baskets of leftovers.About 5,000 men were fed that day, in addition to all the women and children!

Don’t forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realizing it!

This is a time to celebrate before the Lord your God at the designated place of worship he will choose for his name to be honored. Celebrate with your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, the Levites from your towns, and the foreigners, orphans, and widows who live among you.

She must be well respected by everyone because of the good she has done. Has she brought up her children well? Has she been kind to strangers and served other believers humbly? Has she helped those who are in trouble? Has she always been ready to do good?

So the people went away to eat and drink at a festive meal, to share gifts of food, and to celebrate with great joy because they had heard God’s words and understood them.

This festival will be a happy time of celebrating with your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, and the Levites, foreigners, orphans, and widows from your towns.

So a church leader must be a man whose life is above reproach. He must be faithful to his wife. He must exercise self control, live wisely, and have a good reputation. He must enjoy having guests in his home, and he must be able to teach.

I helped those without hope, and they blessed me. And I caused the widows’ hearts to sing for joy.

Rather, he must enjoy having guests in his home, and he must love what is good. He must live wisely and be just. He must live a devout and disciplined life.

He gave them to the disciples, who distributed the food to the crowd.They all ate as much as they wanted. Afterward, the disciples picked up seven large baskets of leftover food.There were 4,000 men who were fed that day, in addition to all the women and children.Then Jesus sent the people home, and he got into a boat and crossed over to the region of Magadan.

There were no needy people among them, because those who owned land or houses would sell themand bring the money to the apostles to give to those in need.

And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had.They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need.

Alcohol is for the dying, and wine for those in bitter distress.Let them drink to forget their poverty and remember their troubles no more.

Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the best part of everything you produce.Then he will fill your barns with grain, and your vats will overflow with good wine.

King Hezekiah gave the people 1,000 bulls and 7,000 sheep and goats for offerings, and the officials donated 1,000 bulls and 10,000 sheep and goats. Meanwhile, many more priests purified themselves.

Then he gave to every Israelite man and woman in the crowd a loaf of bread, a cake of dates, and a cake of raisins. Then all the people returned to their homes.

When God’s people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality.Bless those who persecute you. Don’t curse them; pray that God will bless them.Be happy with those who are happy, and weep with those who weep.Live in harmony with each other. Don’t be too proud to enjoy the company of ordinary people. And don’t think you know it all!

So clean the inside by giving gifts to the poor, and you will be clean all over.

So Peter returned with them; and as soon as he arrived, they took him to the upstairs room. The room was filled with widows who were weeping and showing him the coats and other clothes Dorcas had made for them.
