Then Jesus told this parable:“ A man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came looking for fruit on it and found none.

又設一喻曰：『有植鳳菓樹於葡萄園者、至而覓菓、無所得。

Then he told this parable:“ A man had a fig tree growing in his vineyard, and he went to look for fruit on it but did not find any.

Then Jesus told a story.“ A man had a fig tree,” he said.“ It was growing in his vineyard. When he went to look for fruit on it, he didn’t find any.

You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit, fruit that remains, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you.

I planted you in the land like a special vine of the very best stock. Why in the world have you turned into something like a wild vine that produces rotten, foul-smelling grapes?

I will sing to my love– a song to my lover about his vineyard. My love had a vineyard on a fertile hill.He built a hedge around it, removed its stones, and planted a vine. He built a tower in the middle of it, and constructed a winepress. He waited for it to produce edible grapes, but it produced sour ones instead.So now, residents of Jerusalem, people of Judah, you decide between me and my vineyard!What more can I do for my vineyard beyond what I have already done? When I waited for it to produce edible grapes, why did it produce sour ones instead?

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

I do not say this because I am seeking a gift. Rather, I seek the credit that abounds to your account.

You uprooted a vine from Egypt; you drove out nations and transplanted it.You cleared the ground for it; it took root, and filled the land.The mountains were covered by its shadow, the highest cedars by its branches.Its branches reached the Mediterranean Sea, and its shoots the Euphrates River.Why did you break down its walls, so that all who pass by pluck its fruit?The wild boars of the forest ruin it; the insects of the field feed on it.

After noticing a fig tree by the road he went to it, but found nothing on it except leaves. He said to it,“ Never again will there be fruit from you!” And the fig tree withered at once.When the disciples saw it they were amazed, saying,“ How did the fig tree wither so quickly?”

When the harvest time was near, he sent his slaves to the tenants to collect his portion of the crop.But the tenants seized his slaves, beat one, killed another, and stoned another.Again he sent other slaves, more than the first, and they treated them the same way.Finally he sent his son to them, saying,‘ They will respect my son.’But when the tenants saw the son, they said to themselves,‘ This is the heir. Come, let’s kill him and get his inheritance!’So they seized him, threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him.Now when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?”

Now the next day, as they went out from Bethany, he was hungry.After noticing in the distance a fig tree with leaves, he went to see if he could find any fruit on it. When he came to it he found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs.He said to it,“ May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And his disciples heard it.

When harvest time came, he sent a slave to the tenants so that they would give him his portion of the crop. However, the tenants beat his slave and sent him away empty- handed.So he sent another slave. They beat this one too, treated him outrageously, and sent him away empty- handed.So he sent still a third. They even wounded this one, and threw him out.Then the owner of the vineyard said,‘ What should I do? I will send my one dear son; perhaps they will respect him.’But when the tenants saw him, they said to one another,‘ This is the heir; let’s kill him so the inheritance will be ours!’
