“ Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing.

“ Jerusalem! Jerusalem! You kill the prophets and throw stones in order to kill those who are sent to you. Many times I have wanted to gather your people together. I have wanted to be like a hen who gathers her chicks under her wings. And you would not let me.

O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing!

“ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones God’s messengers! How often I have wanted to gather your children together as a hen protects her chicks beneath her wings, but you wouldn’t let me.

“ Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her. How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing!

Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who have been sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, just as a hen gathers her young under her wings, and you were unwilling!

O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that killeth the prophets, and stoneth them that are sent unto her! how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her own brood under her wings, and ye would not!

“ Jerusalem, Jerusalem! She who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her. How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing!

Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those who foretold the coming of the Just One, of whom you now have become the betrayers and murderers,

As an eagle stirs up its nest, Hovers over its young, Spreading out its wings, taking them up, Carrying them on its wings,So the Lord alone led him, And there was no foreign god with him.

“ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing!See! Your house is left to you desolate;for I say to you, you shall see Me no more till you say,‘ Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’”

Now as He drew near, He saw the city and wept over it,saying,“ If you had known, even you, especially in this your day, the things that make for your peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes.

and level you, and your children within you, to the ground; and they will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did not know the time of your visitation.”

For thus says the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel:“ In returning and rest you shall be saved; In quietness and confidence shall be your strength.” But you would not,

But this is what I commanded them, saying,‘ Obey My voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be My people. And walk in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well with you.’Yet they did not obey or incline their ear, but followed the counsels and the dictates of their evil hearts, and went backward and not forward.

But Jesus, turning to them, said,“ Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for Me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.

The Lord repay your work, and a full reward be given you by the Lord God of Israel, under whose wings you have come for refuge.”

Be glad then, you children of Zion, And rejoice in the Lord your God; For He has given you the former rain faithfully, And He will cause the rain to come down for you— The former rain, And the latter rain in the first month.

“ For these things I weep; My eye, my eye overflows with water; Because the comforter, who should restore my life, Is far from me. My children are desolate Because the enemy prevailed.”

However I have sent to you all My servants the prophets, rising early and sending them, saying,“ Oh, do not do this abominable thing that I hate!”But they did not listen or incline their ear to turn from their wickedness, to burn no incense to other gods.So My fury and My anger were poured out and kindled in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem; and they are wasted and desolate, as it is this day.’

Oh, that they were wise, that they understood this, That they would consider their latter end!

“ Do not be like your fathers, to whom the former prophets preached, saying,‘ Thus says the Lord of hosts:“ Turn now from your evil ways and your evil deeds.”’ But they did not hear nor heed Me,” says the Lord.

for this Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia, and corresponds to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children—but the Jerusalem above is free, which is the mother of us all.

“ But he was angry and would not go in. Therefore his father came out and pleaded with him.

And their dead bodies will lie in the street of the great city which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.

As they called them, So they went from them; They sacrificed to the Baals, And burned incense to carved images.

So they conspired against him, and at the command of the king they stoned him with stones in the court of the house of the Lord.Thus Joash the king did not remember the kindness which Jehoiada his father had done to him, but killed his son; and as he died, he said,“ The Lord look on it, and repay!”

“ Nevertheless they were disobedient And rebelled against You, Cast Your law behind their backs And killed Your prophets, who testified against them To turn them to Yourself; And they worked great provocations.

He shall cover you with His feathers, And under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler.

Why, when I came, was there no man? Why, when I called, was there none to answer? Is My hand shortened at all that it cannot redeem? Or have I no power to deliver? Indeed with My rebuke I dry up the sea, I make the rivers a wilderness; Their fish stink because there is no water, And die of thirst.

Thus says the Lord:“ Stand in the ways and see, And ask for the old paths, where the good way is, And walk in it; Then you will find rest for your souls. But they said,‘ We will not walk in it.’

Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me! For my soul trusts in You; And in the shadow of Your wings I will make my refuge, Until these calamities have passed by.

“ Oh, that My people would listen to Me, That Israel would walk in My ways!

Because of the sins of her prophets And the iniquities of her priests, Who shed in her midst The blood of the just.

Now Saul was consenting to his death. At that time a great persecution arose against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles.

Oh, that they had such a heart in them that they would fear Me and always keep all My commandments, that it might be well with them and with their children forever!

And they stoned Stephen as he was calling on God and saying,“ Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.”

And the vinedressers took his servants, beat one, killed one, and stoned another.Again he sent other servants, more than the first, and they did likewise to them.

And the rest seized his servants, treated them spitefully, and killed them.

But you denied the Holy One and the Just, and asked for a murderer to be granted to you,and killed the Prince of life, whom God raised from the dead, of which we are witnesses.

Yet for many years You had patience with them, And testified against them by Your Spirit in Your prophets. Yet they would not listen; Therefore You gave them into the hand of the peoples of the lands.

Let Israel rejoice in their Maker; Let the children of Zion be joyful in their King.

“ The words of Jonadab the son of Rechab, which he commanded his sons, not to drink wine, are performed; for to this day they drink none, and obey their father’s commandment. But although I have spoken to you, rising early and speaking, you did not obey Me.

Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, The Holy One of Israel:“ I am the Lord your God, Who teaches you to profit, Who leads you by the way you should go.Oh, that you had heeded My commandments! Then your peace would have been like a river, And your righteousness like the waves of the sea.Your descendants also would have been like the sand, And the offspring of your body like the grains of sand; His name would not have been cut off Nor destroyed from before Me.”

Because I have called and you refused, I have stretched out my hand and no one regarded,Because you disdained all my counsel, And would have none of my rebuke,I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your terror comes,When your terror comes like a storm, And your destruction comes like a whirlwind, When distress and anguish come upon you.“ Then they will call on me, but I will not answer; They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me.Because they hated knowledge And did not choose the fear of the Lord,They would have none of my counsel And despised my every rebuke.

and sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding; and they were not willing to come.

And the Lord God of their fathers sent warnings to them by His messengers, rising up early and sending them, because He had compassion on His people and on His dwelling place.But they mocked the messengers of God, despised His words, and scoffed at His prophets, until the wrath of the Lord arose against His people, till there was no remedy.

How precious is Your lovingkindness, O God! Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of Your wings.

I am the Lord your God, Who brought you out of the land of Egypt; Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.“ But My people would not heed My voice, And Israel would have none of Me.

My people are bent on backsliding from Me. Though they call to the Most High, None at all exalt Him.

“ In vain I have chastened your children; They received no correction. Your sword has devoured your prophets Like a destroying lion.

And they brought Urijah from Egypt and brought him to Jehoiakim the king, who killed him with the sword and cast his dead body into the graves of the common people.

Keep me as the apple of Your eye; Hide me under the shadow of Your wings,
