曰『爾等當勉入窄門。予實語爾、欲入而不得入者、眾矣。

“ Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to.

“ Work hard to enter the narrow door to God’s Kingdom, for many will try to enter but will fail.

Therefore, brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm your calling and election, because if you do these things you will never stumble.

“ Enter through the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the road broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who go through it.How narrow is the gate and difficult the road that leads to life, and few find it.

A slacker’s craving will kill him because his hands refuse to work.

Since they are ignorant of the righteousness of God and attempted to establish their own righteousness, they have not submitted to God’s righteousness.

Let us, then, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall into the same pattern of disobedience.

They seek me day after day and delight to know my ways, like a nation that does what is right and does not abandon the justice of their God. They ask me for righteous judgments; they delight in the nearness of God.”“ Why have we fasted, but you have not seen? We have denied ourselves, but you haven’t noticed!”“ Look, you do as you please on the day of your fast, and oppress all your workers.You fast with contention and strife to strike viciously with your fist. You cannot fast as you do today, hoping to make your voice heard on high.

But be alert at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are going to take place and to stand before the Son of Man.”

You will look for me, but you will not find me; and where I am, you cannot come.”

The struggles of fools weary them, for they don’t know how to go to the city.

Since I called out and you refused, extended my hand and no one paid attention,since you neglected all my counsel and did not accept my correction,I, in turn, will laugh at your calamity. I will mock when terror strikes you,when terror strikes you like a storm and your calamity comes like a whirlwind, when trouble and stress overcome you.Then they will call me, but I won’t answer; they will search for me, but won’t find me.

So my people come to you in crowds, sit in front of you, and hear your words, but they don’t obey them. Their mouths go on passionately, but their hearts pursue dishonest profit.

Don’t you know that the runners in a stadium all race, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way to win the prize.Now everyone who competes exercises self-control in everything. They do it to receive a perishable crown, but we an imperishable crown.So I do not run like one who runs aimlessly or box like one beating the air.Instead, I discipline my body and bring it under strict control, so that after preaching to others, I myself will not be disqualified.

Don’t work for the food that perishes but for the food that lasts for eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set his seal of approval on him.”

Therefore, my dear friends, just as you have always obeyed, so now, not only in my presence but even more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.For it is God who is working in you both to will and to work according to his good purpose.

Then he said to them again,“ I’m going away; you will look for me, and you will die in your sin. Where I’m going, you cannot come.”

John had been telling Herod,“ It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.”So Herodias held a grudge against him and wanted to kill him. But she could not,because Herod feared John and protected him, knowing he was a righteous and holy man. When Herod heard him he would be very perplexed, and yet he liked to listen to him.

I labor for this, striving with his strength that works powerfully in me.

When you spread out your hands in prayer, I will refuse to look at you; even if you offer countless prayers, I will not listen. Your hands are covered with blood.

But Israel, pursuing the law of righteousness, has not achieved the righteousness of the law.Why is that? Because they did not pursue it by faith, but as if it were by works. They stumbled over the stumbling stone.As it is written, Look, I am putting a stone in Zion to stumble over and a rock to trip over, and the one who believes on him will not be put to shame.

When the man saw that he could not defeat him, he struck Jacob’s hip socket as they wrestled and dislocated his hip.Then he said to Jacob,“ Let me go, for it is daybreak.” But Jacob said,“ I will not let you go unless you bless me.”

A mocker seeks wisdom and doesn’t find it, but knowledge comes easily to the perceptive.

Little children, I am with you a little while longer. You will look for me, and just as I told the Jews, so now I tell you,‘ Where I am going, you cannot come.’
