When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said,“ It is finished.” Then bowing his head, he gave up his spirit.

I delight to do your will, my God, and your instruction is deep within me.”

“ My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work,” Jesus told them.

While going up to Jerusalem, Jesus took the twelve disciples aside privately and said to them on the way,“ See, we are going up to Jerusalem. The Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn him to death.They will hand him over to the Gentiles to be mocked, flogged, and crucified, and on the third day he will be raised.”Then the mother of Zebedee’s sons approached him with her sons. She knelt down to ask him for something.“ What do you want?” he asked her.“ Promise,” she said to him,“ that these two sons of mine may sit, one on your right and the other on your left, in your kingdom.”Jesus answered,“ You don’t know what you’re asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I am about to drink?”“ We are able,” they said to him.

“ Now my soul is troubled. What should I say— Father, save me from this hour? But that is why I came to this hour.Father, glorify your name.” Then a voice came from heaven:“ I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again.”

They were on the road, going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking ahead of them. The disciples were astonished, but those who followed him were afraid. Taking the Twelve aside again, he began to tell them the things that would happen to him.“ See, we are going up to Jerusalem. The Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death. Then they will hand him over to the Gentiles,and they will mock him, spit on him, flog him, and kill him, and he will rise after three days.”James and John, the sons of Zebedee, approached him and said,“ Teacher, we want you to do whatever we ask you.”“ What do you want me to do for you?” he asked them.They answered him,“ Allow us to sit at your right and at your left in your glory.”Jesus said to them,“ You don’t know what you’re asking. Are you able to drink the cup I drink or to be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with?”

Jesus told them,“ My time has not yet arrived, but your time is always at hand.The world cannot hate you, but it does hate me because I testify about it— that its works are evil.Go up to the festival yourselves. I’m not going up to this festival, because my time has not yet fully come.”

At that, Jesus said to Peter,“ Put your sword away! Am I not to drink the cup the Father has given me?”

After his brothers had gone up to the festival, then he also went up, not openly but secretly.

“ And now I am on my way to Jerusalem, compelled by the Spirit, not knowing what I will encounter there,

Then they were trying again to seize him, but he escaped their grasp.So he departed again across the Jordan to the place where John had been baptizing earlier, and he remained there.Many came to him and said,“ John never did a sign, but everything John said about this man was true.”
