But the one who does not know and does things deserving punishment will be beaten with few blows. From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.

But suppose the servant does not know his master’s wishes. And suppose the servant does things for which he should be punished. He will receive a lighter beating. Much will be required of everyone who has been given much. Even more will be asked of the person who is supposed to take care of much.

My brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment.

“ If a person sins, and commits any of these things which are forbidden to be done by the commandments of the Lord, though he does not know it, yet he is guilty and shall bear his iniquity.

“ For the kingdom of heaven is like a man traveling to a far country, who called his own servants and delivered his goods to them.And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his own ability; and immediately he went on a journey.Then he who had received the five talents went and traded with them, and made another five talents.And likewise he who had received two gained two more also.But he who had received one went and dug in the ground, and hid his lord’s money.After a long time the Lord of those servants came and settled accounts with them.“ So he who had received five talents came and brought five other talents, saying,‘ Lord, you delivered to me five talents; look, I have gained five more talents besides them.’His Lord said to him,‘ Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord.’He also who had received two talents came and said,‘ Lord, you delivered to me two talents; look, I have gained two more talents besides them.’His Lord said to him,‘ Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord.’“ Then he who had received the one talent came and said,‘ Lord, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you have not sown, and gathering where you have not scattered seed.And I was afraid, and went and hid your talent in the ground. Look, there you have what is yours.’“ But his Lord answered and said to him,‘ You wicked and lazy servant, you knew that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not scattered seed.So you ought to have deposited my money with the bankers, and at my coming I would have received back my own with interest.So take the talent from him, and give it to him who has ten talents.‘ For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away.

For whoever has, to him more will be given, and he will have abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.

He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much.Therefore if you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?And if you have not been faithful in what is another man’s, who will give you what is your own?

although I was formerly a blasphemer, a persecutor, and an insolent man; but I obtained mercy because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.

If I had not come and spoken to them, they would have no sin, but now they have no excuse for their sin.

You shall have one law for him who sins unintentionally, for him who is native-born among the children of Israel and for the stranger who dwells among them.‘ But the person who does anything presumptuously, whether he is native-born or a stranger, that one brings reproach on the Lord, and he shall be cut off from among his people.

For as many as have sinned without law will also perish without law, and as many as have sinned in the law will be judged by the law( for not the hearers of the law are just in the sight of God, but the doers of the law will be justified;for when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do the things in the law, these, although not having the law, are a law to themselves,who show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and between themselves their thoughts accusing or else excusing them)in the day when God will judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ, according to my gospel.

So he called him and said to him,‘ What is this I hear about you? Give an account of your stewardship, for you can no longer be steward.’

O Timothy! Guard what was committed to your trust, avoiding the profane and idle babblings and contradictions of what is falsely called knowledge—

But he refused and said to his master’s wife,“ Look, my master does not know what is with me in the house, and he has committed all that he has to my hand.There is no one greater in this house than I, nor has he kept back anything from me but you, because you are his wife. How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?”So it was, as she spoke to Joseph day by day, that he did not heed her, to lie with her or to be with her.But it happened about this time, when Joseph went into the house to do his work, and none of the men of the house was inside,that she caught him by his garment, saying,“ Lie with me.” But he left his garment in her hand, and fled and ran outside.And so it was, when she saw that he had left his garment in her hand and fled outside,that she called to the men of her house and spoke to them, saying,“ See, he has brought in to us a Hebrew to mock us. He came in to me to lie with me, and I cried out with a loud voice.And it happened, when he heard that I lifted my voice and cried out, that he left his garment with me, and fled and went outside.”So she kept his garment with her until his master came home.Then she spoke to him with words like these, saying,“ The Hebrew servant whom you brought to us came in to me to mock me;so it happened, as I lifted my voice and cried out, that he left his garment with me and fled outside.”So it was, when his master heard the words which his wife spoke to him, saying,“ Your servant did to me after this manner,” that his anger was aroused.Then Joseph’s master took him and put him into the prison, a place where the king’s prisoners were confined. And he was there in the prison.But the Lord was with Joseph and showed him mercy, and He gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison.And the keeper of the prison committed to Joseph’s hand all the prisoners who were in the prison; whatever they did there, it was his doing.The keeper of the prison did not look into anything that was under Joseph’s authority, because the Lord was with him; and whatever he did, the Lord made it prosper.

Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent,

but has in due time manifested His word through preaching, which was committed to me according to the commandment of God our Savior;

For if I do this willingly, I have a reward; but if against my will, I have been entrusted with a stewardship.What is my reward then? That when I preach the gospel, I may present the gospel of Christ without charge, that I may not abuse my authority in the gospel.
