其不知而行當罰之罪者、受撻猶少。誠以賦之厚、則望之深、託之重、則責之嚴也。

But the one who does not know and does things deserving punishment will be beaten with few blows. From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.

But suppose the servant does not know his master’s wishes. And suppose the servant does things for which he should be punished. He will receive a lighter beating. Much will be required of everyone who has been given much. Even more will be asked of the person who is supposed to take care of much.

Not many should become teachers, my brothers, because you know that we will receive a stricter judgment.

“ If someone sins and without knowing it violates any of the LORD’s commands concerning anything prohibited, he is guilty, and he will bear his iniquity.

“ For it is just like a man about to go on a journey. He called his own servants and entrusted his possessions to them.To one he gave five talents, to another two talents, and to another one talent, depending on each one’s ability. Then he went on a journey. Immediatelythe man who had received five talents went, put them to work, and earned five more.In the same way the man with two earned two more.But the man who had received one talent went off, dug a hole in the ground, and hid his master’s money.“ After a long time the master of those servants came and settled accounts with them.The man who had received five talents approached, presented five more talents, and said,‘ Master, you gave me five talents. See, I’ve earned five more talents.’“ His master said to him,‘ Well done, good and faithful servant! You were faithful over a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Share your master’s joy.’“ The man with two talents also approached. He said,‘ Master, you gave me two talents. See, I’ve earned two more talents.’“ His master said to him,‘ Well done, good and faithful servant! You were faithful over a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Share your master’s joy.’“ The man who had received one talent also approached and said,‘ Master, I know you. You’re a harsh man, reaping where you haven’t sown and gathering where you haven’t scattered seed.So I was afraid and went off and hid your talent in the ground. See, you have what is yours.’“ His master replied to him,‘ You evil, lazy servant! If you knew that I reap where I haven’t sown and gather where I haven’t scattered,then you should have deposited my money with the bankers, and I would have received my money back with interest when I returned.“‘ So take the talent from him and give it to the one who has ten talents.For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have more than enough. But from the one who does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.

For whoever has, more will be given to him, and he will have more than enough; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.

Whoever is faithful in very little is also faithful in much, and whoever is unrighteous in very little is also unrighteous in much.So if you have not been faithful with worldly wealth, who will trust you with what is genuine?And if you have not been faithful with what belongs to someone else, who will give you what is your own?

even though I was formerly a blasphemer, a persecutor, and an arrogant man. But I received mercy because I acted out of ignorance in unbelief,

If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not be guilty of sin. Now they have no excuse for their sin.

You are to have the same law for the person who acts in error, whether he is an Israelite or an alien who resides among you.“ But the person who acts defiantly, whether native or resident alien, blasphemes the LORD. That person is to be cut off from his people.

For all who sin without the law will also perish without the law, and all who sin under the law will be judged by the law.For the hearers of the law are not righteous before God, but the doers of the law will be justified.So, when Gentiles, who do not by nature have the law, do what the law demands, they are a law to themselves even though they do not have the law.They show that the work of the law is written on their hearts. Their consciences confirm this. Their competing thoughts either accuse or even excuse themon the day when God judges what people have kept secret, according to my gospel through Christ Jesus.

So he called the manager in and asked,‘ What is this I hear about you? Give an account of your management, because you can no longer be my manager.’

Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to you, avoiding irreverent and empty speech and contradictions from what is falsely called knowledge.

But he refused.“ Look,” he said to his master’s wife,“ with me here my master does not concern himself with anything in his house, and he has put all that he owns under my authority.No one in this house is greater than I am. He has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. So how could I do this immense evil, and how could I sin against God?”Although she spoke to Joseph day after day, he refused to go to bed with her.Now one day he went into the house to do his work, and none of the household servants were there.She grabbed him by his garment and said,“ Sleep with me!” But leaving his garment in her hand, he escaped and ran outside.When she saw that he had left his garment with her and had run outside,she called her household servants.“ Look,” she said to them,“ my husband brought a Hebrew man to make fools of us. He came to me so he could sleep with me, and I screamed as loud as I could.When he heard me screaming for help, he left his garment beside me and ran outside.”She put Joseph’s garment beside her until his master came home.Then she told him the same story:“ The Hebrew slave you brought to us came to make a fool of me,but when I screamed for help, he left his garment beside me and ran outside.”When his master heard the story his wife told him—“ These are the things your slave did to me”— he was furiousand had him thrown into prison, where the king’s prisoners were confined. So Joseph was there in prison.But the LORD was with Joseph and extended kindness to him. He granted him favor with the prison warden.The warden put all the prisoners who were in the prison under Joseph’s authority, and he was responsible for everything that was done there.The warden did not bother with anything under Joseph’s authority, because the LORD was with him, and the LORD made everything that he did successful.

that conforms to the gospel concerning the glory of the blessed God, which was entrusted to me.

“ Therefore, having overlooked the times of ignorance, God now commands all people everywhere to repent,

In his own time he has revealed his word in the preaching with which I was entrusted by the command of God our Savior:

For if I do this willingly, I have a reward, but if unwillingly, I am entrusted with a commission.What then is my reward? To preach the gospel and offer it free of charge and not make full use of my rights in the gospel.
