looking forward to the day of God and hurrying it along. On that day, he will set the heavens on fire, and the elements will melt away in the flames.But we are looking forward to the new heavens and new earth he has promised, a world filled with God’s righteousness.And so, dear friends, while you are waiting for these things to happen, make every effort to be found living peaceful lives that are pure and blameless in his sight.

Let us be glad and rejoice, and let us give honor to him. For the time has come for the wedding feast of the Lamb, and his bride has prepared herself.

So be on your guard, not asleep like the others. Stay alert and be clearheaded.

This is all the more urgent, for you know how late it is; time is running out. Wake up, for our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.

And since you don’t know when that time will come, be on guard! Stay alert!“ The coming of the Son of Man can be illustrated by the story of a man going on a long trip. When he left home, he gave each of his slaves instructions about the work they were to do, and he told the gatekeeper to watch for his return.You, too, must keep watch! For you don’t know when the master of the household will return— in the evening, at midnight, before dawn, or at daybreak.Don’t let him find you sleeping when he arrives without warning.

Instead, clothe yourself with the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ. And don’t let yourself think about ways to indulge your evil desires.

“ Watch out! Don’t let your hearts be dulled by carousing and drunkenness, and by the worries of this life. Don’t let that day catch you unaware,like a trap. For that day will come upon everyone living on the earth.Keep alert at all times. And pray that you might be strong enough to escape these coming horrors and stand before the Son of Man.”
