所以你應當記住你所領受、所聽見的是什麼；你應當持守，應當悔改。如果你不警醒，我就要來臨，就像賊來臨那樣；而你絕不會知道我什麼時候臨到你。

「看哪，我要來臨，就像賊來臨那樣！那警醒並保持衣著在身，免得赤身行走被人看見他羞處的，這樣的人是蒙福的。」

因為你們自己明確地知道，主的日子來臨，就像夜裡的賊來臨那樣。當人們正說「和平」、「安全」的時候，毀滅那時就突然臨到他們，就像孕婦的臨產陣痛那樣，他們絕不能逃脫。

「你們不要為自己在地上積蓄財寶，地上有蟲蛀，會鏽蝕，也有盜賊鑽進來偷竊；
