耶穌聽了，就告訴他：“你還缺少一件，應當變賣你一切所有的，分給窮人，你就必定有財寶在天上，而且你還要來跟從我。”

凡為自己積財，在神面前卻不富足的，也是這樣。”

並且變賣產業和財物，按照各人的需要分給他們。

他們中間沒有一個有缺乏的，因為凡有田產房屋的都賣了，把得到的錢拿來，放在使徒腳前，照著各人的需要來分配。

“不可為自己在地上積聚財寶，因為地上有蟲蛀，有鏽侵蝕，也有賊挖洞來偷。要為自己積聚財寶在天上，那裡沒有蟲蛀鏽蝕，也沒有賊挖洞來偷。你的財寶在哪裡，你的心也在哪裡。

我告訴你們，要用不義的錢財（“錢財”亞蘭文是“瑪門”）去結交朋友，好叫錢財無用的時候，他們可以接你們到永恆的帳棚裡。

他們在患難中受到極大的考驗的時候，他們滿溢的喜樂和極度的貧乏，匯流出豐厚的慷慨來。

你要囑咐那些今世富有的人，叫他們不要心高氣傲，也不要寄望在浮動的財富上，卻要仰望那厚賜百物給我們享用的神。又要囑咐他們行善，在善事上富足，慷慨好施。這樣，就為自己在來世積聚財富，作美好的基礎，好叫他們能夠得著那真正的生命。

你們撒的種多，收割的卻少；你們吃，卻吃不飽；你們喝，卻喝不足；你們穿衣服，卻穿不暖；得工錢的，卻把工錢放在破袋裡。”

他說這話，並不是因為他關懷窮人，而是因為他是個賊，又帶著錢囊，常取其中所存的。

你們富有的人哪，應當為那將要臨到你們的災禍哭泣哀號。你們的財物朽壞了，你們的衣服給蛀了，你們的金銀生鏽，這鏽要成為控告你們的鐵證，又要像火一樣吞吃你們的肉。你們竟然在這末後的日子積聚財寶。

只要把裡面的施捨出去，你們的一切就都潔淨了。
