And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, be merry.

If after the manner of men I fought with beasts at Ephesus, what doth it profit me? If the dead are not raised, let us eat and drink, for to- morrow we die.

Boast not thyself of tomorrow; For thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.

Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth, and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thy heart, and in the sight of thine eyes; but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment.

Come now, ye that say, To- day or to- morrow we will go into this city, and spend a year there, and trade, and get gain:whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. What is your life? For ye are a vapor that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall both live, and do this or that.

Woe unto them that rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; that tarry late into the night, till wine inflame them!

Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? For riches certainly make themselves wings, Like an eagle that flieth toward heaven.

Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon the earth, where moth and rust consume, and where thieves break through and steal:but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth consume, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:for where thy treasure is, there will thy heart be also.

God will likewise destroy thee for ever; He will take thee up, and pluck thee out of thy tent, And root thee out of the land of the living.[ SelahThe righteous also shall see it, and fear, And shall laugh at him, saying,Lo, this is the man that made not God his strength, But trusted in the abundance of his riches, And strengthened himself in his wickedness.

whose end is perdition, whose god is the belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.

Ye have lived delicately on the earth, and taken your pleasure; ye have nourished your hearts in a day of slaughter.

Trust not in oppression, And become not vain in robbery: If riches increase, set not your heart thereon.

How much soever she glorified herself, and waxed wanton, so much give her of torment and mourning: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall in no wise see mourning.

Though while he lived he blessed his soul( And men praise thee, when thou doest well to thyself),

Man, that is born of a woman, Is of few days, and full of trouble.

The rich man’s wealth is his strong city, And as a high wall in his own imagination.

Therefore he sacrificeth unto his net, and burneth incense unto his drag; because by them his portion is fat, and his food plenteous.

and houses full of all good things, which thou filledst not, and cisterns hewn out, which thou hewedst not, vineyards and olive- trees, which thou plantedst not, and thou shalt eat and be full;then beware lest thou forget Jehovah, who brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

Woe unto them that join house to house, that lay field to field, till there be no room, and ye be made to dwell alone in the midst of the land!

Charge them that are rich in this present world, that they be not highminded, nor have their hope set on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;

If I have made gold my hope, And have said to the fine gold, Thou art my confidence;If I have rejoiced because my wealth was great, And because my hand had gotten much;

traitors, headstrong, puffed up, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God;

But she that giveth herself to pleasure is dead while she liveth.

For the time past may suffice to have wrought the desire of the Gentiles, and to have walked in lasciviousness, lusts, winebibbings, revellings, carousings, and abominable idolatries:

Come now, ye rich, weep and howl for your miseries that are coming upon you.Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth- eaten.Your gold and your silver are rusted; and their rust shall be for a testimony against you, and shall eat your flesh as fire. Ye have laid up your treasure in the last days.

and, behold, joy and gladness, slaying oxen and killing sheep, eating flesh and drinking wine: Let us eat and drink, for to- morrow we shall die.

But take heed to yourselves, lest haply your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that day come on you suddenly as a snare:

lest, when thou hast eaten and art full, and hast built goodly houses, and dwelt therein;and when thy herds and thy flocks multiply, and thy silver and thy gold is multiplied, and all that thou hast is multiplied;then thy heart be lifted up, and thou forget Jehovah thy God, who brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage;

Wherefore should I fear in the days of evil, When iniquity at my heels compasseth me about?They that trust in their wealth, And boast themselves in the multitude of their riches;None of them can by any means redeem his brother, Nor give to God a ransom for him( For the redemption of their life is costly, And it faileth for ever),That he should still live alway, That he should not see corruption.For he shall see it. Wise men die; The fool and the brutish alike perish, And leave their wealth to others.Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever, And their dwelling- places to all generations; They call their lands after their own names.But man being in honor abideth not: He is like the beasts that perish.This their way is their folly: Yet after them men approve their sayings.[ Selah
