But He said to them,“ Beware, and be on your guard against every form of greed; for not even when one is affluent does his life consist of his possessions.”

遂語眾曰、慎戒貪婪、蓋人之生、不在所蓄之豐裕也、

遂謂眾曰、慎戒勿貪、蓋人之生、不在所蓄之贏餘也、○

遂謂眾曰、慎哉、勿貪婪、蓋人之生命、不在家貲豐裕、

因謂眾曰：『爾其慎之、摒絕一切貪婪、人之生命、不在其產業之富裕也。』

Then he said to them,“ Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.”

Then he said to them,“ Watch out! Be on your guard against wanting to have more and more things. Life is not made up of how much a person has.”

And he said to them,“ Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”

Then he said,“ Beware! Guard against every kind of greed. Life is not measured by how much you own.”

He then told them,“ Watch out and be on guard against all greed, because one’s life is not in the abundance of his possessions.”

And He said to them,“ Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses.”

And he said unto them, Take heed, and keep yourselves from all covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.

He then told them,“ Watch out and be on guard against all greed because one’s life is not in the abundance of his possessions.”

And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.

Then he said to them,“ Watch out and guard yourself from all types of greed, because one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”

He said to them,“ Beware! Keep yourselves from covetousness, for a man’s life doesn’t consist of the abundance of the things which he possesses.”

Make sure that your character is free from the love of money, being content with what you have; for He Himself has said,“ I will never desert you, nor will I ever abandon you,”

But godliness actually is a means of great gain when accompanied by contentment.For we have brought nothing into the world, so we cannot take anything out of it, either.If we have food and covering, with these we shall be content.But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap, and many foolish and harmful desires which plunge people into ruin and destruction.For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

Incline my heart to Your testimonies, And not to dishonest gain.Turn my eyes away from looking at what is worthless, And revive me in Your ways.

How much better it is to get wisdom than gold! And to get understanding is to be chosen above silver.

Better is a little with the fear of the Lord Than great treasure, and turmoil with the treasure.

“ For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is life not more than food, and the body more than clothing?Look at the birds of the sky, that they do not sow, nor reap, nor gather crops into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more important than they?

Now the Pharisees, who were lovers of money, were listening to all these things and were ridiculing Him.

One who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor one who loves abundance with its income. This too is futility.When good things increase, those who consume them increase. So what is the advantage to their owners except to look at them?The sleep of the laborer is sweet, whether he eats little or much; but the full stomach of the rich person does not allow him to sleep.There is a sickening evil which I have seen under the sun: wealth being hoarded by its owner to his detriment.When that wealth was lost through bad business and he had fathered a son, then there was nothing to support him.As he came naked from his mother’s womb, so he will return as he came. He will take nothing from the fruit of his labor that he can carry in his hand.This also is a sickening evil: exactly as a person is born, so will he die. What then is the advantage for him who labors for the wind?

For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, slanderers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy,

Do not trust in oppression, And do not vainly rely on robbery; If wealth increases, do not set your heart on it.

and in their greed they will exploit you with false words; their judgment from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.

Therefore, treat the parts of your earthly body as dead to sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry.

And the seed which fell among the thorns, these are the ones who have heard, and as they go on their way they are choked by worries, riches, and pleasures of this life, and they bring no fruit to maturity.

“ But your eyes and your heart Are intent only upon your own dishonest gain, And on shedding innocent blood, And on practicing oppression and extortion.”Therefore this is what the Lord says regarding Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah:“ They will not mourn for him:‘ Oh, my brother!’ or,‘ Oh, sister!’ They will not mourn for him:‘ Oh, for the master!’ or,‘ Oh, for his splendor!’

“ If I have put my confidence in gold, And called fine gold my trust,If I have gloated because my wealth was great, And because my hand had obtained so much;

deeds of greed, wickedness, deceit, indecent behavior, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness.

“ Woe to him who makes evil profit for his household, To put his nest on high, To be saved from the hand of catastrophe!

“ But be on your guard, so that your hearts will not be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and the worries of life, and that this day will not come on you suddenly, like a trap;

Satan answered the Lord and said,“ Skin for skin! Yes, all that a man has, he will give for his life.

Do not weary yourself to gain wealth; Stop dwelling on it.When you set your eyes on it, it is gone. For wealth certainly makes itself wings Like an eagle that flies toward the heavens.

I did not at all mean with the sexually immoral people of this world, or with the greedy and swindlers, or with idolaters, for then you would have to leave the world.But actually, I wrote to you not to associate with any so called brother if he is a sexually immoral person, or a greedy person, or an idolater, or is verbally abusive, or habitually drunk, or a swindler— not even to eat with such a person.

when I saw among the spoils a beautiful robe from Shinar, two hundred shekels of silver, and a bar of gold fifty shekels in weight, then I wanted them and took them; and behold, they are hidden in the ground inside my tent, with the silver underneath.”

“ For from the least of them to the greatest of them, Everyone is greedy for gain, And from the prophet to the priest Everyone deals falsely.

A leader who is a great oppressor lacks understanding, But a person who hates unjust gain will prolong his days.

One hand full of rest is better than two fists full of labor and striving after wind.Then I looked again at futility under the sun.There was a man without a dependent, having neither a son nor a brother, yet there was no end to all his labor. Indeed, his eyes were not satisfied with riches, and he never asked,“ And for whom do I labor and deprive myself of pleasure?” This too is futility, and it is an unhappy task.

nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor those habitually drunk, nor verbal abusers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.

But sexual immorality or any impurity or greed must not even be mentioned among you, as is proper among saints;and there must be no filthiness or foolish talk, or vulgar joking, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks.For this you know with certainty, that no sexually immoral or impure or greedy person, which amounts to an idolater, has an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.

Better is the little of the righteous Than the abundance of many wicked.

For the wicked boasts of his soul’s desire, And the greedy person curses and shows disrespect to the Lord.

having eyes full of adultery that never cease from sin, enticing unstable souls, having hearts trained in greed, accursed children;

They covet fields, so they seize them; And houses, so they take them. They exploit a man and his house, A person and his inheritance.
