遂語眾曰、慎戒貪婪、蓋人之生、不在所蓄之豐裕也、

遂謂眾曰、慎戒勿貪、蓋人之生、不在所蓄之贏餘也、○

遂謂眾曰、慎哉、勿貪婪、蓋人之生命、不在家貲豐裕、

因謂眾曰：『爾其慎之、摒絕一切貪婪、人之生命、不在其產業之富裕也。』

Then he said to them,“ Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.”

Then he said to them,“ Watch out! Be on your guard against wanting to have more and more things. Life is not made up of how much a person has.”

And he said to them,“ Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”

Then he said,“ Beware! Guard against every kind of greed. Life is not measured by how much you own.”

But He said to them,“ Beware, and be on your guard against every form of greed; for not even when one is affluent does his life consist of his possessions.”

And He said to them,“ Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses.”

And he said unto them, Take heed, and keep yourselves from all covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.

He then told them,“ Watch out and be on guard against all greed because one’s life is not in the abundance of his possessions.”

And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.

Then he said to them,“ Watch out and guard yourself from all types of greed, because one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”

He said to them,“ Beware! Keep yourselves from covetousness, for a man’s life doesn’t consist of the abundance of the things which he possesses.”

Keep your life free from the love of money. Be satisfied with what you have, for he himself has said, I will never leave you or abandon you.

But godliness with contentment is great gain.For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out.If we have food and clothing, we will be content with these.But those who want to be rich fall into temptation, a trap, and many foolish and harmful desires, which plunge people into ruin and destruction.For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, and by craving it, some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

Turn my heart to your decrees and not to dishonest profit.Turn my eyes from looking at what is worthless; give me life in your ways.

Get wisdom— how much better it is than gold! And get understanding— it is preferable to silver.

Better a little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure with turmoil.

“ Therefore I tell you: Don’t worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Isn’t life more than food and the body more than clothing?Consider the birds of the sky: They don’t sow or reap or gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you worth more than they?

The Pharisees, who were lovers of money, were listening to all these things and scoffing at him.

The one who loves silver is never satisfied with silver, and whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with income. This too is futile.When good things increase, the ones who consume them multiply; what, then, is the profit to the owner, except to gaze at them with his eyes?The sleep of the worker is sweet, whether he eats little or much, but the abundance of the rich permits him no sleep.There is a sickening tragedy I have seen under the sun: wealth kept by its owner to his harm.That wealth was lost in a bad venture, so when he fathered a son, he was empty-handed.As he came from his mother’s womb, so he will go again, naked as he came; he will take nothing for his efforts that he can carry in his hands.This too is a sickening tragedy: exactly as he comes, so he will go. What does the one gain who struggles for the wind?

For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, proud, demeaning, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy,

Place no trust in oppression or false hope in robbery. If wealth increases, don’t set your heart on it.

They will exploit you in their greed with made-up stories. Their condemnation, pronounced long ago, is not idle, and their destruction does not sleep.

Therefore, put to death what belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desire, and greed, which is idolatry.

As for the seed that fell among thorns, these are the ones who, when they have heard, go on their way and are choked with worries, riches, and pleasures of life, and produce no mature fruit.

But you have eyes and a heart for nothing except your own dishonest profit, shedding innocent blood and committing extortion and oppression.Therefore, this is what the LORD says concerning Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah: They will not mourn for him, saying,“ Woe, my brother!” or“ Woe, my sister!” They will not mourn for him, saying,“ Woe, lord! Woe, his majesty!”

If I placed my confidence in gold or called fine gold my trust,if I have rejoiced because my wealth is great or because my own hand has acquired so much,

adulteries, greed, evil actions, deceit, self-indulgence, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness.

Woe to him who dishonestly makes wealth for his house to place his nest on high, to escape the grasp of disaster!

“ Be on your guard, so that your minds are not dulled from carousing, drunkenness, and worries of life, or that day will come on you unexpectedly

“ Skin for skin!” Satan answered the LORD.“ A man will give up everything he owns in exchange for his life.

Don’t wear yourself out to get rich; because you know better, stop!As soon as your eyes fly to it, it disappears, for it makes wings for itself and flies like an eagle to the sky.

I did not mean the immoral people of this world or the greedy and swindlers or idolaters; otherwise you would have to leave the world.But actually, I wrote you not to associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister and is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or verbally abusive, a drunkard or a swindler. Do not even eat with such a person.

When I saw among the spoils a beautiful cloak from Babylon, five pounds of silver, and a bar of gold weighing a pound and a quarter, I coveted them and took them. You can see for yourself. They are concealed in the ground inside my tent, with the silver under the cloak.”

For from the least to the greatest of them, everyone is making profit dishonestly. From prophet to priest, everyone deals falsely.

A leader who lacks understanding is very oppressive, but one who hates dishonest profit prolongs his life.

Better one handful with rest than two handfuls with effort and a pursuit of the wind.Again, I saw futility under the sun:There is a person without a companion, without even a son or brother, and though there is no end to all his struggles, his eyes are still not content with riches.“ Who am I struggling for,” he asks,“ and depriving myself of good things?” This too is futile and a miserable task.

no thieves, greedy people, drunkards, verbally abusive people, or swindlers will inherit God’s kingdom.

But sexual immorality and any impurity or greed should not even be heard of among you, as is proper for saints.Obscene and foolish talking or crude joking are not suitable, but rather giving thanks.For know and recognize this: Every sexually immoral or impure or greedy person, who is an idolater, does not have an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

The little that the righteous person has is better than the abundance of many wicked people.

For the wicked one boasts about his own cravings; the one who is greedy curses and despises the LORD.

They have eyes full of adultery that never stop looking for sin. They seduce unstable people and have hearts trained in greed. Children under a curse!

They covet fields and seize them; they also take houses. They deprive a man of his home, a person of his inheritance.
