耶穌對他們說：「你們要注意，要提防法利賽人和撒都該人的酵母。」門徒們就彼此討論說：「這是因為我們沒有帶餅吧。」耶穌知道了，就說：「小信的人哪，你們為什麼彼此討論沒有帶餅的事呢？你們還不明白嗎？難道不記得那五個餅給五千人，你們收拾了幾個籃子的碎塊嗎？也不記得那七個餅給四千人，你們收拾了幾個筐子的碎塊嗎？你們怎麼不明白，我對你們說的不是餅的事，而是要你們提防法利賽人和撒都該人的酵母呢？」門徒們這才領悟耶穌所說的不是要他們提防餅的酵母，而是要他們提防法利賽人和撒都該人的教導。

他們聽了就不住地榮耀神，又對保羅說：「弟兄，你看猶太人中信主的人有多少萬，而且他們都是對律法熱心的人。

你們這些偽善的人！你們懂得分辨天地的氣象，怎麼不懂得分辨這個時代呢？

耶穌的消息反而越發傳開了。有一大群人聚集而來，聽他傳道，也要他們的病得痊癒。

罪人在錫安懼怕，不敬虔的人被戰兢抓住，說：「我們中間誰能與吞噬之火同住？我們中間誰能與不滅之焰共居？」

「你們有禍了！因為你們好像沒有標誌的墳墓，人走在上面也不知道。」

耶穌與他們一起下了山，站在一塊平地上。那裡有他的一大群門徒，還有來自整個猶太地區、耶路撒冷以及沿海的提爾和西頓的一大群人。
