Therefore also the wisdom of God said,‘ I will send to them prophets and apostles; and some of them they will kill and persecute,

因此天主之妙慧、曾作警言曰：「予遣先知宗徒於若輩有為所害、有為所辱、

Because of this, God in his wisdom said,‘ I will send them prophets and apostles, some of whom they will kill and others they will persecute.’

So God in his wisdom said,‘ I will send prophets and apostles to them. They will kill some. And they will try to hurt others.’

Therefore also the Wisdom of God said,‘ I will send them prophets and apostles, some of whom they will kill and persecute,’

This is what God in his wisdom said about you:‘ I will send prophets and apostles to them, but they will kill some and persecute the others.’

Because of this, the wisdom of God said,‘ I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they will kill and persecute,’

to know wisdom and instruction; to discern the words of understanding;to receive instruction in wise dealing, in righteousness, justice, and equity;to give prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the young man:that the wise man may hear, and increase in learning; that the man of understanding may attain to sound counsel:to understand a proverb, and parables, the words and riddles of the wise.

You will be handed over even by parents, brothers, relatives, and friends. They will cause some of you to be put to death.You will be hated by all men for my name’s sake.

But Saul, still breathing threats and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priestand asked for letters from him to the synagogues of Damascus, that if he found any who were of the Way, whether men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you. You will be witnesses to me in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the uttermost parts of the earth.”

When the blood of Stephen, your witness, was shed, I also was standing by, consenting to his death, and guarding the cloaks of those who killed him.’

He gave some to be apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, shepherds and teachers;

Wisdom has built her house. She has carved out her seven pillars.She has prepared her meat. She has mixed her wine. She has also set her table.She has sent out her maidens. She cries from the highest places of the city:

and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name to all the nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

They will put you out of the synagogues. Yes, the time comes that whoever kills you will think that he offers service to God.

but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God;

But they cried out with a loud voice and stopped their ears, then rushed at him with one accord.They threw him out of the city and stoned him. The witnesses placed their garments at the feet of a young man named Saul.They stoned Stephen as he called out, saying,“ Lord Jesus, receive my spirit!”He kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice,“ Lord, don’t hold this sin against them!” When he had said this, he fell asleep.Saul was consenting to his death. A great persecution arose against the assembly which was in Jerusalem in that day. They were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except for the apostles.

Five times I received forty stripes minus one from the Jews.Three times I was beaten with rods. Once I was stoned. Three times I suffered shipwreck. I have been a night and a day in the deep.

Doesn’t wisdom cry out? Doesn’t understanding raise her voice?On the top of high places by the way, where the paths meet, she stands.Beside the gates, at the entry of the city, at the entry doors, she cries aloud:“ I call to you men! I send my voice to the sons of mankind.You simple, understand prudence! You fools, be of an understanding heart!Hear, for I will speak excellent things. The opening of my lips is for right things.For my mouth speaks truth. Wickedness is an abomination to my lips.All the words of my mouth are in righteousness. There is nothing crooked or perverse in them.They are all plain to him who understands, right to those who find knowledge.Receive my instruction rather than silver, knowledge rather than choice gold.For wisdom is better than rubies. All the things that may be desired can’t be compared to it.“ I, wisdom, have made prudence my dwelling. Find out knowledge and discretion.

I persecuted this Way to the death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women.As also the high priest and all the council of the elders testify, from whom also I received letters to the brothers, and traveled to Damascus to bring them also who were there to Jerusalem in bonds to be punished.

and the rest grabbed his servants, and treated them shamefully, and killed them.

Therefore behold, I send to you prophets, wise men, and scribes. Some of them you will kill and crucify; and some of them you will scourge in your synagogues, and persecute from city to city;that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zachariah son of Barachiah, whom you killed between the sanctuary and the altar.Most certainly I tell you, all these things will come upon this generation.

I also did this in Jerusalem. I both shut up many of the saints in prisons, having received authority from the chief priests, and when they were put to death I gave my vote against them.Punishing them often in all the synagogues, I tried to make them blaspheme. Being exceedingly enraged against them, I persecuted them even to foreign cities.

But Saul ravaged the assembly, entering into every house and dragged both men and women off to prison.
