For this reason also, the wisdom of God said,‘ I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they will kill, and some they will persecute,

因此天主之妙慧、曾作警言曰：「予遣先知宗徒於若輩有為所害、有為所辱、

Because of this, God in his wisdom said,‘ I will send them prophets and apostles, some of whom they will kill and others they will persecute.’

To know wisdom and instruction, To discern the sayings of understanding,To receive instruction in wise behavior, Righteousness, justice, and integrity;To give prudence to the naive, To the youth knowledge and discretion,A wise person will hear and increase in learning, And a person of understanding will acquire wise counsel,To understand a proverb and a saying, The words of the wise and their riddles.

But you will be betrayed even by parents, brothers and sisters, other relatives, and friends, and they will put some of you to death,and you will be hated by all people because of My name.

Now about that time Herod the king laid hands on some who belonged to the church, to do them harm.And he had James the brother of John executed with a sword.

Now Saul, still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest,and asked for letters from him to the synagogues in Damascus, so that if he found any belonging to the Way, whether men or women, he might bring them in shackles to Jerusalem.

but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and Samaria, and as far as the remotest part of the earth.”

And He gave some as apostles, some as prophets, some as evangelists, some as pastors and teachers,

Wisdom has built her house, She has carved out her seven pillars;She has prepared her food, she has mixed her wine; She has also set her table;She has sent out her attendants, she calls out From the tops of the heights of the city:

and that repentance for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.

They will ban you from the synagogue, yet an hour is coming for everyone who kills you to think that he is offering a service to God.

but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

But they shouted with loud voices, and covered their ears and rushed at him with one mind.When they had driven him out of the city, they began stoning him; and the witnesses laid aside their cloaks at the feet of a young man named Saul.They went on stoning Stephen as he called on the Lord and said,“ Lord Jesus, receive my spirit!”Then he fell on his knees and cried out with a loud voice,“ Lord, do not hold this sin against them!” Having said this, he fell asleep.Now Saul approved of putting Stephen to death. And on that day a great persecution began against the church in Jerusalem, and they were all scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except for the apostles.

Five times I received from the Jews thirty nine lashes.Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was stoned, three times I was shipwrecked, a night and a day I have spent adrift at sea.

Does not wisdom call, And understanding raise her voice?On top of the heights beside the way, Where the paths meet, she takes her stand;Beside the gates, at the opening to the city, At the entrance of the doors, she cries out:“ To you, people, I call, And my voice is to mankind.You naive ones, understand prudence; And, you fools, understand wisdom!Listen, for I will speak noble things; And the opening of my lips will reveal right things.For my mouth will proclaim truth; And wickedness is an abomination to my lips.All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; There is nothing crooked or perverted in them.They are all straightforward to him who understands, And right to those who find knowledge.Accept my instruction and not silver, And knowledge rather than choice gold.For wisdom is better than jewels; And all desirable things cannot compare with her.“ I, wisdom, dwell with prudence, And I find knowledge and discretion.

I persecuted this Way to the death, binding and putting both men and women into prisons,as also the high priest and all the Council of the elders can testify. From them I also received letters to the brothers, and started off for Damascus in order to bring even those who were there to Jerusalem as prisoners to be punished.

and the rest seized his slaves and treated them abusively, and then killed them.

“ Therefore, behold, I am sending you prophets and wise men and scribes; some of them you will kill and crucify, and some of them you will flog in your synagogues, and persecute from city to city,so that upon you will fall the guilt of all the righteous blood shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah, the son of Berechiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar.Truly I say to you, all these things will come upon this generation.

And this is just what I did in Jerusalem; not only did I lock up many of the saints in prisons, after receiving authority from the chief priests, but I also cast my vote against them when they were being put to death.And as I punished them often in all the synagogues, I tried to force them to blaspheme; and since I was extremely enraged at them, I kept pursuing them even to foreign cities.

But Saul began ravaging the church, entering house after house; and he would drag away men and women and put them in prison.
