Therefore also the Wisdom of God said,‘ I will send them prophets and apostles, some of whom they will kill and persecute,’

因此天主之妙慧、曾作警言曰：「予遣先知宗徒於若輩有為所害、有為所辱、

Because of this, God in his wisdom said,‘ I will send them prophets and apostles, some of whom they will kill and others they will persecute.’

So God in his wisdom said,‘ I will send prophets and apostles to them. They will kill some. And they will try to hurt others.’

This is what God in his wisdom said about you:‘ I will send prophets and apostles to them, but they will kill some and persecute the others.’

Because of this, the wisdom of God said,‘ I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they will kill and persecute,’

For this reason also, the wisdom of God said,‘ I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they will kill, and some they will persecute,

To know wisdom and instruction, to understand words of insight,to receive instruction in wise dealing, in righteousness, justice, and equity;to give prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the youth—Let the wise hear and increase in learning, and the one who understands obtain guidance,to understand a proverb and a saying, the words of the wise and their riddles.

You will be delivered up even by parents and brothers and relatives and friends, and some of you they will put to death.You will be hated by all for my name’s sake.

About that time Herod the king laid violent hands on some who belonged to the church.He killed James the brother of John with the sword,

But Saul, still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priestand asked him for letters to the synagogues at Damascus, so that if he found any belonging to the Way, men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

And when the blood of Stephen your witness was being shed, I myself was standing by and approving and watching over the garments of those who killed him.’

And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers,

Wisdom has built her house; she has hewn her seven pillars.She has slaughtered her beasts; she has mixed her wine; she has also set her table.She has sent out her young women to call from the highest places in the town,

and that repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem.

They will put you out of the synagogues. Indeed, the hour is coming when whoever kills you will think he is offering service to God.

but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

But they cried out with a loud voice and stopped their ears and rushed together at him.Then they cast him out of the city and stoned him. And the witnesses laid down their garments at the feet of a young man named Saul.And as they were stoning Stephen, he called out,“ Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.”And falling to his knees he cried out with a loud voice,“ Lord, do not hold this sin against them.” And when he had said this, he fell asleep.And Saul approved of his execution. And there arose on that day a great persecution against the church in Jerusalem, and they were all scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles.

Five times I received at the hands of the Jews the forty lashes less one.Three times I was beaten with rods. Once I was stoned. Three times I was shipwrecked; a night and a day I was adrift at sea;

Does not wisdom call? Does not understanding raise her voice?On the heights beside the way, at the crossroads she takes her stand;beside the gates in front of the town, at the entrance of the portals she cries aloud:“ To you, O men, I call, and my cry is to the children of man.O simple ones, learn prudence; O fools, learn sense.Hear, for I will speak noble things, and from my lips will come what is right,for my mouth will utter truth; wickedness is an abomination to my lips.All the words of my mouth are righteous; there is nothing twisted or crooked in them.They are all straight to him who understands, and right to those who find knowledge.Take my instruction instead of silver, and knowledge rather than choice gold,for wisdom is better than jewels, and all that you may desire cannot compare with her.“ I, wisdom, dwell with prudence, and I find knowledge and discretion.

I persecuted this Way to the death, binding and delivering to prison both men and women,as the high priest and the whole council of elders can bear me witness. From them I received letters to the brothers, and I journeyed toward Damascus to take those also who were there and bring them in bonds to Jerusalem to be punished.

while the rest seized his servants, treated them shamefully, and killed them.

Therefore I send you prophets and wise men and scribes, some of whom you will kill and crucify, and some you will flog in your synagogues and persecute from town to town,so that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah the son of Barachiah, whom you murdered between the sanctuary and the altar.Truly, I say to you, all these things will come upon this generation.

And I did so in Jerusalem. I not only locked up many of the saints in prison after receiving authority from the chief priests, but when they were put to death I cast my vote against them.And I punished them often in all the synagogues and tried to make them blaspheme, and in raging fury against them I persecuted them even to foreign cities.

But Saul was ravaging the church, and entering house after house, he dragged off men and women and committed them to prison.
