Because of this, the wisdom of God said,‘ I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they will kill and persecute,’

因此天主之妙慧、曾作警言曰：「予遣先知宗徒於若輩有為所害、有為所辱、

Because of this, God in his wisdom said,‘ I will send them prophets and apostles, some of whom they will kill and others they will persecute.’

For learning wisdom and discipline; for understanding insightful sayings;for receiving prudent instruction in righteousness, justice, and integrity;for teaching shrewdness to the inexperienced, knowledge and discretion to a young man—let a wise person listen and increase learning, and let a discerning person obtain guidance—for understanding a proverb or a parable, the words of the wise, and their riddles.

You will even be betrayed by parents, brothers, relatives, and friends. They will kill some of you.You will be hated by everyone because of my name,

About that time King Herod violently attacked some who belonged to the church,and he executed James, John’s brother, with the sword.

Now Saul was still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord. He went to the high priestand requested letters from him to the synagogues in Damascus, so that if he found any men or women who belonged to the Way, he might bring them as prisoners to Jerusalem.

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

And when the blood of your witness Stephen was being shed, I stood there giving approval and guarding the clothes of those who killed him.’

And he himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers,

Wisdom has built her house; she has carved out her seven pillars.She has prepared her meat; she has mixed her wine; she has also set her table.She has sent out her female servants; she calls out from the highest points of the city:

and repentance for forgiveness of sins will be proclaimed in his name to all the nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

They will ban you from the synagogues. In fact, a time is coming when anyone who kills you will think he is offering service to God.

Yet to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God,

They yelled at the top of their voices, covered their ears, and together rushed against him.They dragged him out of the city and began to stone him. And the witnesses laid their garments at the feet of a young man named Saul.While they were stoning Stephen, he called out,“ Lord Jesus, receive my spirit!”He knelt down and cried out with a loud voice,“ Lord, do not hold this sin against them!” And after saying this, he fell asleep.Saul agreed with putting him to death. On that day a severe persecution broke out against the church in Jerusalem, and all except the apostles were scattered throughout the land of Judea and Samaria.

Five times I received the forty lashes minus one from the Jews.Three times I was beaten with rods. Once I received a stoning. Three times I was shipwrecked. I have spent a night and a day in the open sea.

Doesn’t wisdom call out? Doesn’t understanding make her voice heard?At the heights overlooking the road, at the crossroads, she takes her stand.Beside the gates leading into the city, at the main entrance, she cries out:“ People, I call out to you; my cry is to the children of Adam.Learn to be shrewd, you who are inexperienced; develop common sense, you who are foolish.Listen, for I speak of noble things, and what my lips say is right.For my mouth tells the truth, and wickedness is detestable to my lips.All the words from my mouth are righteous; none of them are deceptive or perverse.All of them are clear to the perceptive, and right to those who discover knowledge.Accept my instruction instead of silver, and knowledge rather than pure gold.For wisdom is better than jewels, and nothing desirable can equal it.I, wisdom, share a home with shrewdness and have knowledge and discretion.

I persecuted this Way to the death, arresting and putting both men and women in jail,as both the high priest and the whole council of elders can testify about me. After I received letters from them to the brothers, I traveled to Damascus to arrest those who were there and bring them to Jerusalem to be punished.

while the rest seized his servants, mistreated them, and killed them.

This is why I am sending you prophets, sages, and scribes. Some of them you will kill and crucify, and some of them you will flog in your synagogues and pursue from town to town.So all the righteous blood shed on the earth will be charged to you, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah, son of Berechiah, whom you murdered between the sanctuary and the altar.Truly I tell you, all these things will come on this generation.

I actually did this in Jerusalem, and I locked up many of the saints in prison, since I had received authority for that from the chief priests. When they were put to death, I was in agreement against them.In all the synagogues I often punished them and tried to make them blaspheme. Since I was terribly enraged at them, I pursued them even to foreign cities.

Saul, however, was ravaging the church. He would enter house after house, drag off men and women, and put them in prison.
