「沒有人點了燈，卻用器皿把它蓋起來或放到床底下，而是放在燈臺上，使進來的人能見到光。掩蓋的事終會暴露出來，隱藏的秘密終會被人知道。

耶穌繼續說：「人會把燈拿來放在籃子底下或床底下嗎？當然不會，他一定會把它放在燈臺上。隱藏的事是不能掩蓋的，終會顯露出來。

人點亮了燈，不會把它放在斗底下，而是放在燈臺上，好照亮全家。同樣，你們的光也應當照在人面前，好讓他們看見你們的好行為，便讚美你們天上的父。

我來是要作世界的光，好叫信我的人脫離黑暗。

好使你們在這個彎曲敗壞的時代中無可指責、誠實無偽，作上帝純潔無瑕的兒女，如同明光照耀在世上，堅守生命之道。這樣，到了基督再來的時候，我可以誇口自己沒有空跑一場，也沒有白費功夫。

你們要把我私下告訴你們的當眾講出來，你們要在屋頂上把聽到的悄悄話宣告出來。

耶穌說：「白天不是有十二個小時嗎？人在白天走路，不會跌倒，因為他看得見這世上的光。
