“ When an evil spirit leaves a person, it goes into the desert, searching for rest. But when it finds none, it says,‘ I will return to the person I came from.’

邪魔既離人身、徘徊於無水之地、欲求安身之所而不可得、乃曰：「吾將返吾故宅。」

Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.

And so that person is worse off than before. That will be the experience of this evil generation.”

O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you. My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you in this parched and weary land where there is no water.

“ Where have you come from?” the Lord asked Satan. Satan answered the Lord,“ I have been patrolling the earth, watching everything that’s going on.”

When Jesus saw that the crowd of onlookers was growing, he rebuked the evil spirit.“ Listen, you spirit that makes this boy unable to hear and speak,” he said.“ I command you to come out of this child and never enter him again!”

Then the evil spirits begged him again and again not to send them to some distant place.

“ But there is no peace for the wicked,” says the Lord.

You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil— the commander of the powers in the unseen world. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God.

For I will pour out water to quench your thirst and to irrigate your parched fields. And I will pour out my Spirit on your descendants, and my blessing on your children.

The parched ground will become a pool, and springs of water will satisfy the thirsty land. Marsh grass and reeds and rushes will flourish where desert jackals once lived.

“ When the poor and needy search for water and there is none, and their tongues are parched from thirst, then I, the Lord, will answer them. I, the God of Israel, will never abandon them.I will open up rivers for them on the high plateaus. I will give them fountains of water in the valleys. I will fill the desert with pools of water. Rivers fed by springs will flow across the parched ground.I will plant trees in the barren desert— cedar, acacia, myrtle, olive, cypress, fir, and pine.

Even the wilderness and desert will be glad in those days. The wasteland will rejoice and blossom with spring crocuses.Yes, there will be an abundance of flowers and singing and joy! The deserts will become as green as the mountains of Lebanon, as lovely as Mount Carmel or the plain of Sharon. There the Lord will display his glory, the splendor of our God.

“ But those who still reject me are like the restless sea, which is never still but continually churns up mud and dirt.There is no peace for the wicked,” says my God.

If the fleece is wet with dew in the morning but the ground is dry, then I will know that you are going to help me rescue Israel as you promised.”And that is just what happened. When Gideon got up early the next morning, he squeezed the fleece and wrung out a whole bowlful of water.Then Gideon said to God,“ Please don’t be angry with me, but let me make one more request. Let me use the fleece for one more test. This time let the fleece remain dry while the ground around it is wet with dew.”So that night God did as Gideon asked. The fleece was dry in the morning, but the ground was covered with dew.

For evil people can’t sleep until they’ve done their evil deed for the day. They can’t rest until they’ve caused someone to stumble.

Then he said to me,“ This river flows east through the desert into the valley of the Dead Sea. The waters of this stream will make the salty waters of the Dead Sea fresh and pure.There will be swarms of living things wherever the water of this river flows. Fish will abound in the Dead Sea, for its waters will become fresh. Life will flourish wherever this water flows.Fishermen will stand along the shores of the Dead Sea. All the way from En gedi to En eglaim, the shores will be covered with nets drying in the sun. Fish of every kind will fill the Dead Sea, just as they fill the Mediterranean.But the marshes and swamps will not be purified; they will still be salty.
