那時，一個有鬼魔附身、又瞎又啞的人被帶到耶穌那裡。耶穌使他痊癒，那啞巴就能說話，也能看見了。眾人都十分驚訝，說：「難道這個人就是『大衛的後裔』？」但法利賽人聽見了卻說：「這個人如果不是靠著鬼魔的王別西卜，就不能驅趕鬼魔！」

兩個人離去了。這時候有幾個人把一個有鬼魔附身的啞巴帶到耶穌那裡。鬼魔一被趕出去，啞巴就說出話來。眾人都感到驚奇，他們說：「這樣的事，在以色列從來沒有見過。」但法利賽人卻說：「他是靠鬼魔的王驅趕鬼魔的。」

有人把一個又聾又啞的人帶到耶穌面前，懇求耶穌按手在他身上。耶穌把他從人群中單獨帶到一邊去，用指頭伸進他的耳朵，吐唾沫來抹他的舌頭，然後望天噓了一口氣，對他說：「以法達！」——這意思是「開了吧」。他的耳朵立刻開了，舌結也解了，說話也清楚了。耶穌吩咐他們不要告訴任何人。但是，他越是吩咐，他們越是大大傳揚。人們極其驚訝，說：「他所做的一切都好！他甚至使聾子聽見，使啞巴說話。」
