For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

Everyone who asks will receive. The one who searches will find. And the door will be opened to the one who knocks.

We count those blessed who endured. You have heard of the endurance of Job and have seen the outcome of the Lord’s dealings, that the Lord is full of compassion and is merciful.

You ask and do not receive, because you ask with the wrong motives, so that you may spend what you request on your pleasures.

So I say,“ My strength has failed, And so has my hope from the Lord.”

Now He was telling them a parable to show that at all times they ought to pray and not become discouraged,

Waters flowed over my head; I said,“ I am cut off!”I called on Your name, Lord, Out of the lowest pit.You have heard my voice,“ Do not cover Your ear from my plea for relief, From my cry for help.”You came near on the day I called to You; You said,“ Do not fear!”Lord, You have pleaded my soul’s cause; You have redeemed my life.

and he said,“ I called out of my distress to the Lord, And He answered me. I called for help from the depth of Sheol; You heard my voice.For You threw me into the deep, Into the heart of the seas, And the current flowed around me. All Your breakers and waves passed over me.So I said,‘ I have been cast out of Your sight. Nevertheless I will look again toward Your holy temple.’Water encompassed me to the point of death. The deep flowed around me, Seaweed was wrapped around my head.I descended to the base of the mountains. The earth with its bars was around me forever, But You have brought up my life from the pit, Lord my God.While I was fainting away, I remembered the Lord, And my prayer came to You, Into Your holy temple.Those who are followers of worthless idols Abandon their faithfulness,

Even when I cry out and call for help, He shuts out my prayer.

As for me, I said in my alarm,“ I am cut off from Your eyes”; Nevertheless You heard the sound of my pleadings When I called to You for help.
