For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

See, we count as blessed those who have endured. You have heard of Job’s endurance and have seen the outcome that the Lord brought about— the Lord is compassionate and merciful.

You ask and don’t receive because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures.

Then I thought,“ My future is lost, as well as my hope from the LORD.”

Now he told them a parable on the need for them to pray always and not give up.

Water flooded over my head, and I thought,“ I’m going to die!”I called on your name, LORD, from the depths of the pit.You heard my plea: Do not ignore my cry for relief.You came near whenever I called you; you said,“ Do not be afraid.”You championed my cause, Lord; you redeemed my life.

I called to the LORD in my distress, and he answered me. I cried out for help from deep inside Sheol; you heard my voice.When you threw me into the depths, into the heart of the seas, the current overcame me. All your breakers and your billows swept over me.And I said,“ I have been banished from your sight, yet I will look once more toward your holy temple.”The water engulfed me up to the neck; the watery depths overcame me; seaweed was wrapped around my head.I sank to the foundations of the mountains, the earth’s gates shut behind me forever! Then you raised my life from the Pit, LORD my God!As my life was fading away, I remembered the LORD, and my prayer came to you, to your holy temple.Those who cherish worthless idols abandon their faithful love,

Even when I cry out and plead for help, he blocks out my prayer.

In my alarm I said,“ I am cut off from your sight.” But you heard the sound of my pleading when I cried to you for help.
