There he got down on his knees and prayed.He said,“ Father, if you are willing, take this cup of suffering away from me. But do what you want, not what I want.”An angel from heaven appeared to Jesus and gave him strength.Because he was very sad and troubled, he prayed even harder. His sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.After that, he got up from prayer and went back to the disciples. He found them sleeping. They were worn out because they were very sad.

But you, dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith. Let the Holy Spirit guide and help you when you pray.

Lord, you hear the desires of those who are hurting. You cheer them up and give them hope. You listen to their cries.

One day Jesus was praying alone. Only his disciples were with him. He asked them,“ Who do the crowds say I am?”

On one of those days, Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray. He spent the night praying to God.

In the same way, the Holy Spirit helps us when we are weak. We don’t know what we should pray for. But the Spirit himself prays for us. He prays through groans too deep for words.God, who looks into our hearts, knows the mind of the Spirit. And the Spirit prays for God’s people just as God wants him to pray.

About eight days after Jesus said this, he went up on a mountain to pray. He took Peter, John and James with him.

Lord, may these words of my mouth please you. And may these thoughts of my heart please you also. You are my Rock and my Redeemer.

You want something, but you don’t have it. So you kill. You want what others have, but you can’t get what you want. So you argue and fight. You don’t have what you want, because you don’t ask God.When you do ask for something, you don’t receive it. That’s because you ask for the wrong reason. You want to spend your money on your sinful pleasures.

Jesus prayed while he lived on earth. He made his appeal with sincere cries and tears. He prayed to the God who could save him from death. God answered Jesus because he truly honored God.
