耶穌出來，照他的習慣往橄欖山去，門徒們也跟著他。到了那地方，耶穌對他們說：「你們要禱告，免得陷入試探。」然後他抽出身，離他們約有扔一塊石頭的距離，跪下禱告，說：「父啊，如果你願意，請把這杯從我這裡拿走吧！但不要成就我的意思，而要成就你的意思。」有一位天使從天上向他顯現，加添他的力量。耶穌在極大的痛苦中，禱告更加懇切；他的汗珠變得像大血滴，落在地上。禱告完了，他起身到門徒那裡，看見他們因為憂傷都睡著了，

至於你們蒙愛的人哪，要在你們至聖的信仰上造就自己，藉著聖靈禱告，

耶和華啊，你垂聽了卑微人的願望！你使他們的心堅定；你側耳傾聽，

有一次，耶穌獨自禱告的時候，門徒們和他在一起。耶穌問他們，說：「眾人說我是誰？」

就在那些日子裡，耶穌有一次出去到山上禱告；他整夜向神禱告。

況且，聖靈也照樣扶助我們的軟弱。事實上，我們不知道該禱告什麼、如何禱告，但聖靈卻親自用說不出的嘆息，為我們代求。而且，洞察人心的那一位，知道聖靈的意念是什麼，因為聖靈是按神的意思為聖徒代求的。

說了這些話以後約八天，耶穌帶著彼得、約翰、雅各上山去禱告。

耶和華——我的磐石、我的救贖主啊，願我口中的言語、心裡的默想，在你面前蒙悅納。

你們渴望而不能擁有，就殺人；你們嫉妒而不能獲得，就爭鬥、作戰。你們不能擁有，是因為你們不求；你們求也不能得到，是因為你們求的動機不對，為了要花費在自己的私慾上。

基督在他肉身的日子裡，曾經用強烈的呼號和淚水，向能救他脫離死亡的那一位獻上了祈禱和懇求，就因著他的虔誠蒙了垂聽。
