耶穌照常到橄欖山去，門徒也跟著他。到了那裡，他對門徒說：“你們應當禱告，免得陷入試探。”於是耶穌離開他們約有扔一塊石頭那麼遠，跪下禱告說：“父啊，如果你願意，就把這杯拿走！但不要成就我的意思，只要成就你的旨意。”（有些抄本有第43、44節：“有一位天使從天上顯現，加給他力量。耶穌非常傷痛，禱告更加懇切，汗如大血點滴在地上。”）

但你們呢，親愛的，你們要在至聖的信仰上建立自己，在聖靈裡禱告，

耶和華啊！困苦人的心願你已經聽見，你必堅固他們的心，也必留心聽他們的呼求；

有一次耶穌獨自祈禱的時候，只有門徒和他在一起。他問他們：“人說我是誰？”

在那些日子，有一次耶穌出去到山上禱告，整夜禱告神。

照樣，聖靈也在我們的軟弱上幫助我們。原來我們不曉得應當怎樣禱告，但聖靈親自用不可言喻的歎息，替我們祈求。那鑒察人心的，曉得聖靈的心意，因為聖靈照著神的旨意替聖徒祈求。

說了這些話以後約有八天，耶穌帶著彼得、約翰和雅各，上山去禱告。

耶和華我的磐石、我的救贖主啊！願我口中的言語、心裡的意念，都在你面前蒙悅納。

你們放縱貪慾，如果得不到，就殺人；你們嫉妒，如果一無所得，就打鬥爭執。你們得不到，因為你們不求；你們求也得不到，因為你們的動機不良，要把所得的耗費在你們的私慾上。

基督在世的時候，曾經流淚大聲禱告懇求那位能救他脫離死亡的神；因著他的敬虔，就蒙了應允。
