耶穌離開，像往常一樣前往橄欖山，門徒也跟去了。到了山上，祂對門徒說：「你們要禱告，以免陷入誘惑！」然後，祂獨自走到離門徒約有扔一塊石頭那麼遠的地方跪下禱告：「父啊，若你願意，求你撤去此杯，然而，願你的旨意成就，而非我的意願。」有一位從天上來的天使向祂顯現，給祂加添力量。祂心中極其悲痛，禱告更懇切，汗珠如血滴在地上。祂禱告完後，便起身回到門徒那裡，看見他們因憂愁而疲憊地睡著了，

親愛的弟兄姊妹，你們要在至聖的真道上造就自己，在聖靈的引導下禱告，

耶和華啊，你知道困苦人的願望，你必垂聽他們的呼求，安慰他們。

有一次，耶穌獨自禱告的時候，門徒也在旁邊。耶穌問他們：「人們說我是誰？」

一天，耶穌到山上整夜向上帝禱告。

況且，我們軟弱的時候，有聖靈幫助我們。我們本來不知道怎樣禱告，但聖靈親自用說不出來的歎息替我們祈禱。洞悉人心的上帝知道聖靈的意思，因為聖靈是照著上帝的旨意替聖徒祈禱。

講完這些話後大約八天，耶穌帶著彼得、約翰和雅各一同到山上禱告。

耶和華——我的磐石、我的救贖主啊，願你喜悅我口中的言語、心中的意念。

你們貪心，得不到就去殺人。你們嫉妒，得不到就爭吵、打鬥。你們得不到是因為你們不向上帝祈求。你們求也得不到是因為你們動機不純，只求享樂和滿足自己的慾望。

基督在世為人的時候，曾經聲淚俱下地祈求能救祂脫離死亡的上帝。祂因為敬虔而蒙了應允。
