有好些猶太人來看馬大和馬利亞，要為她們弟弟的緣故安慰她們。馬大聽見耶穌來了，就出去迎接他；馬利亞卻仍然坐在家裏。

有一個患病的人，名叫拉撒路，住在伯大尼，就是馬利亞和她姐姐馬大的村莊。這馬利亞就是那用香膏抹主，又用頭髮擦他腳的；患病的拉撒路是她的弟弟。姊妹兩個就打發人去見耶穌，說：「主啊，你所愛的人病了。」耶穌聽見後卻說：「這病不至於死，而是為了上帝的榮耀，為要使上帝的兒子藉此得榮耀。」耶穌素來愛馬大和她妹妹，以及拉撒路。

逾越節前六天，耶穌來到伯大尼，就是他使拉撒路從死人中復活的地方。有人在那裏為耶穌預備宴席；馬大伺候，拉撒路也在同耶穌坐席的人中間。馬利亞拿着一斤極貴的純哪噠香膏，抹耶穌的腳，又用自己頭髮去擦，屋裏充滿了膏的香氣。

還有曾被邪靈所附，被疾病所纏，而已經治好的幾個婦女，其中有稱為抹大拉的馬利亞，曾有七個鬼從她身上趕出來，又有希律的管家苦撒的妻子約亞拿，和蘇撒拿以及好些別的婦女，她們都是用自己的財物供給耶穌和使徒。

她和她一家都領了洗，就求我們說：「你們若以為我是真心信主的，請到我家裏來住。」於是她堅決請我們留下。
