The expert in the law replied,“ The one who had mercy on him.” Jesus told him,“ Go and do likewise.”

The authority on the law replied,“ The one who felt sorry for him.” Jesus told him,“ Go and do as he did.”

He said,“ The one who showed him mercy.” And Jesus said to him,“ You go, and do likewise.”

The man replied,“ The one who showed him mercy.” Then Jesus said,“ Yes, now go and do the same.”

“ The one who showed mercy to him,” he said. Then Jesus told him,“ Go and do the same.”

And he said,“ The one who showed compassion to him.” Then Jesus said to him,“ Go and do the same.”

And he said,“ He who showed mercy on him.” Then Jesus said to him,“ Go and do likewise.”

The expert in religious law said,“ The one who showed mercy to him.” So Jesus said to him,“ Go and do the same.”

For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ: Though He was rich, for your sake He became poor, so that by His poverty you might become rich.

If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them.If you do what is good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that.And if you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners to be repaid in full.But love your enemies, do what is good, and lend, expecting nothing in return. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High. For He is gracious to the ungrateful and evil.Be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful.

For you were called to this, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you should follow in His steps.

“ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You pay a tenth of mint, dill, and cumin, yet you have neglected the more important matters of the law— justice, mercy, and faith. These things should have been done without neglecting the others.

Mankind, He has told you what is good and what it is the Lord requires of you: to act justly, to love faithfulness, and to walk humbly with your God.

For I have given you an example that you also should do just as I have done for you.“ I assure you: A slave is not greater than his master, and a messenger is not greater than the one who sent him.If you know these things, you are blessed if you do them.

For I desire loyalty and not sacrifice, the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.

may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the length and width, height and depth of God’s love,and to know the Messiah’s love that surpasses knowledge, so you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

The one who despises his neighbor sins, but whoever shows kindness to the poor will be happy.

just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life— a ransom for many.”

And walk in love, as the Messiah also loved us and gave Himself for us, a sacrificial and fragrant offering to God.

and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To Him who loves us and has set us free from our sins by His blood,

Now this is His command: that we believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and love one another as He commanded us.The one who keeps His commands remains in Him, and He in him. And the way we know that He remains in us is from the Spirit He has given us.

But we do see Jesus— made lower than the angels for a short time so that by God’s grace He might taste death for everyone— crowned with glory and honor because of His suffering in death.For in bringing many sons to glory, it was entirely appropriate that God— all things exist for Him and through Him— should make the source of their salvation perfect through sufferings.For the One who sanctifies and those who are sanctified all have one Father. That is why Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers,saying: I will proclaim Your name to My brothers; I will sing hymns to You in the congregation.Again, I will trust in Him. And again, Here I am with the children God gave Me.Now since the children have flesh and blood in common, Jesus also shared in these, so that through His death He might destroy the one holding the power of death— that is, the Devil—and free those who were held in slavery all their lives by the fear of death.
