But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him.

Don’t forsake your friend and your father’s friend. Don’t go to your brother’s house in the day of your disaster. A neighbor who is near is better than a distant brother.

Now when Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, a eunuch, who was in the king’s house, heard that they had put Jeremiah in the dungeon( the king was then sitting in Benjamin’s gate),Ebedmelech went out of the king’s house, and spoke to the king, saying,“ My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet, whom they have cast into the dungeon. He is likely to die in the place where he is, because of the famine; for there is no more bread in the city.”Then the king commanded Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, saying,“ Take from here thirty men with you, and take up Jeremiah the prophet out of the dungeon, before he dies.”So Ebedmelech took the men with him, and went into the house of the king under the treasury, and took from there rags and worn- out garments, and let them down by cords into the dungeon to Jeremiah.Ebedmelech the Ethiopian said to Jeremiah,“ Now put these rags and worn- out garments under your armpits under the cords.” Jeremiah did so.So they drew up Jeremiah with the cords, and took him up out of the dungeon; and Jeremiah remained in the court of the guard.

When the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said to her,“ Don’t cry.”

Jesus sent these twelve out, and commanded them, saying,“ Don’t go among the Gentiles, and don’t enter into any city of the Samaritans.

Shouldn’t you also have had mercy on your fellow servant, even as I had mercy on you?’

She opened it, and saw the child, and behold, the baby cried. She had compassion on him, and said,“ This is one of the Hebrews’ children.”

Then the Jews answered him,“ Don’t we say well that you are a Samaritan, and have a demon?”

The Samaritan woman therefore said to him,“ How is it that you, being a Jew, ask for a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?”( For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.)

“ Go, and speak to Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, saying,‘ Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, says:“ Behold, I will bring my words on this city for evil, and not for good; and they will be accomplished before you in that day.But I will deliver you in that day,” says Yahweh;“ and you will not be given into the hand of the men of whom you are afraid.For I will surely save you, and you won’t fall by the sword, but you will escape with your life; because you have put your trust in me,” says Yahweh.’”

He fell on his face at Jesus’ feet, giving him thanks; and he was a Samaritan.Jesus answered,“ Weren’t the ten cleansed? But where are the nine?Were there none found who returned to give glory to God, except this foreigner?”

and sent messengers before his face. They went and entered into a village of the Samaritans, so as to prepare for him.They didn’t receive him, because he was traveling with his face set toward Jerusalem.
