On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus.“ Teacher,” he asked,“ what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

One day an authority on the law stood up to test Jesus.“ Teacher,” he asked,“ what must I do to receive eternal life?”

And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test, saying,“ Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”

One day an expert in religious law stood up to test Jesus by asking him this question:“ Teacher, what should I do to inherit eternal life?”

Then an expert in the law stood up to test him, saying,“ Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

And behold, a lawyer stood up and put Him to the test, saying,“ Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”

And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tested Him, saying,“ Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”

And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and made trial of him, saying, Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?

Just then an expert in the law stood up to test Him, saying,“ Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?

Now an expert in religious law stood up to test Jesus, saying,“ Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

But the Pharisees, when they heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, gathered themselves together.One of them, a lawyer, asked him a question, testing him.“ Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the law?”Jesus said to him,“‘ You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’This is the first and great commandment.A second likewise is this,‘ You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’

A certain ruler asked him, saying,“ Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”

brought them out, and said,“ Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”They said,“ Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.”

Behold, one came to him and said,“ Good teacher, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?”He said to him,“ Why do you call me good? No one is good but one, that is, God. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.”He said to him,“ Which ones?” Jesus said,“‘ You shall not murder.’‘ You shall not commit adultery.’‘ You shall not steal.’‘ You shall not offer false testimony.’‘ Honor your father and your mother.’ And,‘ You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’”

But the Pharisees and the lawyers rejected the counsel of God, not being baptized by him themselves.

For if the inheritance is of the law, it is no more of promise; but God has granted it to Abraham by promise.

One of the lawyers answered him,“ Teacher, in saying this you insult us also.”He said,“ Woe to you lawyers also! For you load men with burdens that are difficult to carry, and you yourselves won’t even lift one finger to help carry those burdens.
