On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus.“ Teacher,” he asked,“ what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

One day an authority on the law stood up to test Jesus.“ Teacher,” he asked,“ what must I do to receive eternal life?”

And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test, saying,“ Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”

One day an expert in religious law stood up to test Jesus by asking him this question:“ Teacher, what should I do to inherit eternal life?”

Then an expert in the law stood up to test him, saying,“ Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

And behold, a lawyer stood up and put Him to the test, saying,“ Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”

And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tested Him, saying,“ Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”

And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and made trial of him, saying, Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?

Just then an expert in the law stood up to test Him, saying,“ Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together.One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question:“ Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”Jesus replied:“‘ Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’This is the first and greatest commandment.And the second is like it:‘ Love your neighbor as yourself.’ (niv)

A certain ruler asked him,“ Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” (niv)

He then brought them out and asked,“ Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”They replied,“ Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved— you and your household.” (niv)

Just then a man came up to Jesus and asked,“ Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?”“ Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied.“ There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.”“ Which ones?” he inquired. Jesus replied,“‘ You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony,honor your father and mother,’ and‘ love your neighbor as yourself.’” (niv)

But the Pharisees and the experts in the law rejected God’s purpose for themselves, because they had not been baptized by John.) (niv)

For if the inheritance depends on the law, then it no longer depends on the promise; but God in his grace gave it to Abraham through a promise. (niv)

One of the experts in the law answered him,“ Teacher, when you say these things, you insult us also.”Jesus replied,“ And you experts in the law, woe to you, because you load people down with burdens they can hardly carry, and you yourselves will not lift one finger to help them. (niv)
