On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus.“ Teacher,” he asked,“ what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test, saying,“ Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”

Then an expert in the law stood up to test him, saying,“ Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

And behold, a lawyer stood up and put Him to the test, saying,“ Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”

And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tested Him, saying,“ Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”

And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and made trial of him, saying, Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?

Just then an expert in the law stood up to test Him, saying,“ Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?

Now when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they assembled together.And one of them, an expert in religious law, asked him a question to test him:“ Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?”Jesus said to him,“‘ Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’This is the first and greatest commandment.The second is like it:‘ Love your neighbor as yourself.’

Now a certain ruler asked him,“ Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

Then he brought them outside and asked,“ Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”They replied,“ Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, you and your household.”

Now someone came up to him and said,“ Teacher, what good thing must I do to gain eternal life?”He said to him,“ Why do you ask me about what is good? There is only one who is good. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.”“ Which ones?” he asked. Jesus replied,“ Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony,honor your father and mother, and love your neighbor as yourself.”

However, the Pharisees and the experts in religious law rejected God’s purpose for themselves, because they had not been baptized by John.)

For if the inheritance is based on the law, it is no longer based on the promise, but God graciously gave it to Abraham through the promise.

One of the experts in religious law answered him,“ Teacher, when you say these things you insult us too.”But Jesus replied,“ Woe to you experts in religious law as well! You load people down with burdens difficult to bear, yet you yourselves refuse to touch the burdens with even one of your fingers!
