to give his people the knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins,

You will tell his people how they can be saved. You will tell them that their sins can be forgiven.

Peter replied,“ Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

God exalted him to his own right hand as Prince and Savior that he might bring Israel to repentance and forgive their sins.

All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.”

I have seen and I testify that this is God’s Chosen One.”

To this John replied,“ A person can receive only what is given them from heaven.You yourselves can testify that I said,‘ I am not the Messiah but am sent ahead of him.’The bride belongs to the bridegroom. The friend who attends the bridegroom waits and listens for him, and is full of joy when he hears the bridegroom’s voice. That joy is mine, and it is now complete.He must become greater; I must become less.”The one who comes from above is above all; the one who is from the earth belongs to the earth, and speaks as one from the earth. The one who comes from heaven is above all.He testifies to what he has seen and heard, but no one accepts his testimony.Whoever has accepted it has certified that God is truthful.For the one whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God gives the Spirit without limit.The Father loves the Son and has placed everything in his hands.Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them.

Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven— as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.”Then Jesus said to her,“ Your sins are forgiven.”The other guests began to say among themselves,“ Who is this who even forgives sins?”Jesus said to the woman,“ Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”

The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said,“ Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!

He went into all the country around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.

Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord,

In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace

( John testified concerning him. He cried out, saying,“ This is the one I spoke about when I said,‘ He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’”)Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given.For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

Paul said,“ John’s baptism was a baptism of repentance. He told the people to believe in the one coming after him, that is, in Jesus.”

David says the same thing when he speaks of the blessedness of the one to whom God credits righteousness apart from works:“ Blessed are those whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered.Blessed is the one whose sin the Lord will never count against them.”

God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood— to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished—

“ a voice of one calling in the wilderness,‘ Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.’”And so John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.

“ Therefore, my friends, I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you.Through him everyone who believes is set free from every sin, a justification you were not able to obtain under the law of Moses.

No longer will they teach their neighbor, or say to one another,‘ Know the Lord,’ because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest,” declares the Lord.“ For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”
