And you, my child, will be called a prophet of the Most High; for you will go on before the Lord to prepare the way for him,

Though Herod wanted to kill John, he feared the crowd since they regarded John as a prophet.

But if we say,‘ Of human origin,’ we’re afraid of the crowd, because everyone considers John to be a prophet.”

And it will be said of Zion,“ This one and that one were born in her.” The Most High himself will establish her.

Look, I am going to send you the prophet Elijah before the great and terrible day of the LORD comes.

“ I baptize you with water for repentance, but the one who is coming after me is more powerful than I. I am not worthy to remove his sandals. He himself will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

as it is written in the book of the words of the prophet Isaiah: A voice of one crying out in the wilderness: Prepare the way for the Lord; make his paths straight!Every valley will be filled, and every mountain and hill will be made low; the crooked will become straight, the rough ways smooth,and everyone will see the salvation of God.

Before his coming to public attention, John had previously proclaimed a baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.Now as John was completing his mission, he said,‘ Who do you think I am? I am not the one. But one is coming after me, and I am not worthy to untie the sandals on his feet.’

He is the one coming after me, whose sandal strap I’m not worthy to untie.”

He will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God.And he will go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of fathers to their children, and the disobedient to the understanding of the righteous, to make ready for the Lord a prepared people.”
