But God said,“ No. Your wife Sarah will bear you a son, and you will name him Isaac. I will confirm my covenant with him as a permanent covenant for his future offspring.

you offspring of Abraham his servant, Jacob’s descendants— his chosen ones.He is the LORD our God; his judgments govern the whole earth.He remembers his covenant forever, the promise he ordained for a thousand generations—the covenant he made with Abraham, swore to Isaac,and confirmed to Jacob as a decree and to Israel as a permanent covenant:

Regarding the gospel, they are enemies for your advantage, but regarding election, they are loved because of the patriarchs,since God’s gracious gifts and calling are irrevocable.

I will make your offspring as numerous as the stars of the sky, I will give your offspring all these lands, and all the nations of the earth will be blessed by your offspring,

I will bless those who bless you, I will curse anyone who treats you with contempt, and all the peoples on earth will be blessed through you.

The LORD swore an oath to David, a promise he will not abandon:“ I will set one of your offspring on your throne.If your sons keep my covenant and my decrees that I will teach them, their sons will also sit on your throne forever.”For the LORD has chosen Zion; he has desired it for his home:“ This is my resting place forever; I will make my home here because I have desired it.I will abundantly bless its food; I will satisfy its needy with bread.I will clothe its priests with salvation, and its faithful people will shout for joy.There I will make a horn grow for David; I have prepared a lamp for my anointed one.

And all the nations of the earth will be blessed by your offspring because you have obeyed my command.”

Your offspring will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out toward the west, the east, the north, and the south. All the peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring.

Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. He does not say“ and to seeds,” as though referring to many, but referring to one, and to your seed, who is Christ.My point is this: The law, which came 430 years later, does not invalidate a covenant previously established by God and thus cancel the promise.
