他們往前走的時候，經過一處有水的地方，太監說：「你看，這裡有水，我可以在這裡接受洗禮嗎？」

我已經與基督一同被釘在十字架上，現在活著的不再是我，而是基督活在我裡面。我現在是靠信上帝的兒子而活著，祂愛我，為我捨命。

看守耶穌的百夫長和士兵看見地震及所發生的一切，都很害怕，說：「這人真是上帝的兒子啊！」

耶穌還是沉默不語。大祭司又對祂說：「我奉永活上帝的名命令你起誓告訴我們，你是不是上帝的兒子基督？」耶穌說：「如你所言。但我告訴你們，將來你們要看見人子坐在大能者的右邊，駕著天上的雲降臨。」

誰能使污穢產生潔淨呢？沒有人能。

世人怎能在上帝面前算為義人？婦人所生的怎能純潔？

我們以前也在他們當中隨從罪惡的本性，放縱肉體和心中的私慾，與其他人一樣本是惹上帝發怒的人。

更何況可憎敗壞、嗜惡如喝水的世人？

我生來就是個罪人，在母腹成胎的時候就有罪。

那位君王說：「我要宣告耶和華的旨意，祂對我說，『你是我的兒子，我今日成為你父親。

船上的人都敬拜祂，說：「你真是上帝的兒子。」

而記載這些事的目的是為了使你們相信耶穌就是基督，是上帝的兒子，並且使你們這些信祂的人可以靠祂的名得到生命。

有關上帝的兒子耶穌基督的福音是這樣開始的。

我們所需要的，正是這樣一位聖潔無瑕、良善純全、遠離罪惡、超越諸天的大祭司。祂無需像其他大祭司每天先為自己的罪獻祭，然後為百姓的罪獻祭，因為祂只一次獻上自己的生命，便永遠完成了贖罪的工作。根據律法所立的大祭司都有弱點，但律法之後憑誓言所立的大祭司——上帝的兒子永遠純全。

試探者前來對祂說：「如果你是上帝的兒子，可以叫這些石頭變成食物。」
