你们出去究竟是要看什么？是先知吗？是的，我告诉你们，他比先知大多了。这个人就是经上所说的：‘看哪，我要差遣我的使者在你面前，他要在你前面为你预备道路。’我实在告诉你们，凡女子所生的，没有一个比施洗约翰大；但在天国里，最小的比他还大。从施洗约翰的日子到今天，天国受到强烈的攻击，强者夺取它。众先知和律法，直到约翰为止，都说了预言。如果你们愿意接受，这人就是那要来的以利亚。有耳的，就应当听！“我该用什么来比这世代呢？这正像孩童坐在街市上向同伴呼喊：‘我们为你们吹笛，你们不跳舞；我们唱哀歌，你们不捶胸。’约翰来了，既不吃也不喝，人们就说他是被鬼附的；人子来了，也吃也喝，他们又说这人贪食好酒，是税吏和罪人的朋友。而智慧是由它的果子来证实的。”

彼得和十一个使徒站起来，他就高声向众人说：“犹太人和所有住在耶路撒冷的人哪，这件事你们要知道，要侧耳听我的话。这些人并不像你们所想的喝醉了，因为现在才早晨九点钟。这正是藉着先知约珥所说的：‘神说：在末后的日子，我要将我的灵浇灌凡血肉之躯的。你们的儿女要说预言；你们的少年要见异象；你们的老人要做异梦。在那些日子，我要把我的灵浇灌，甚至给我的仆人和婢女，他们要说预言。
