“你要告诉以色列人，对他们说：‘无论男女，如果许了特别的愿，就是拿细耳人的愿，就要离俗归耶和华。他要戒除淡酒和浓酒；淡酒作的醋和浓酒作的醋，他都不可喝；不可喝任何葡萄汁，也不可吃鲜葡萄或干葡萄。在他离俗的日子，葡萄树上出产的，无论是葡萄核或是葡萄皮，都不可吃。

约翰是一盏点亮的灯，你们情愿暂时在他的光中欢乐。

那么，你们出去要看什么？先知吗？我告诉你们，是的。他比先知重要得多了。经上所记：‘看哪，我差遣我的使者在你面前，他必在你前头预备你的道路。’这句话是指着他说的。我实在告诉你们，妇人所生的，没有一个比施洗的约翰更大；然而天国里最小的比他还大。从施洗的约翰的时候直到现在，天国不断遭受猛烈的攻击，强暴的人企图把它夺去。所有的先知和律法，直到约翰为止，都说了预言。如果你们肯接受，约翰就是那要来的以利亚。有耳的，就应当听。“我要把这世代比作什么呢？它好像一些小孩子坐在市中心，呼叫别的小孩子，说：‘我们给你们吹笛子，你们却不跳舞；我们唱哀歌，你们也不捶胸。’约翰来了，不吃也不喝，人说他是鬼附的；人子来了，又吃又喝，人却说：‘你看，这人贪食好酒，与税吏和罪人为友。’但智慧藉着它所作的，就证实是公义的了。”

彼得和十一使徒站起来，他高声对众人说：“犹太人和所有住在耶路撒冷的人哪，你们应当明白这件事，也应该留心听我的话。这些人并不是照你们所想的喝醉了，现在不过是上午九点钟罢了。这正是约珥先知所说的：‘神说：在末后的日子，我要把我的灵浇灌所有的人，你们的儿女要说预言，你们的青年人要见异象，你们的老年人要作异梦。在那些日子，我也要把我的灵浇灌我的仆人和使女，他们就要说预言。
