And the Lord visited Hannah, so that she conceived and bore three sons and two daughters. Meanwhile the child Samuel grew before the Lord.

And the Angel of the Lord appeared to the woman and said to her,“ Indeed now, you are barren and have borne no children, but you shall conceive and bear a son.Now therefore, please be careful not to drink wine or similar drink, and not to eat anything unclean.For behold, you shall conceive and bear a son. And no razor shall come upon his head, for the child shall be a Nazirite to God from the womb; and he shall begin to deliver Israel out of the hand of the Philistines.”

Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, The fruit of the womb is a reward.Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one’s youth.Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them; They shall not be ashamed, But shall speak with their enemies in the gate.

He grants the barren woman a home, Like a joyful mother of children. Praise the Lord!

Then the angel said to her,“ Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.

Then he said,“ About this time next year you shall embrace a son.” And she said,“ No, my Lord. Man of God, do not lie to your maidservant!”But the woman conceived, and bore a son when the appointed time had come, of which Elisha had told her.

Then I went to the prophetess, and she conceived and bore a son. Then the Lord said to me,“ Call his name Maher-Shalal-Hash-Baz;

Then God said:“ No, Sarah your wife shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac; I will establish My covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his descendants after him.

And when eight days were completed for the circumcision of the Child, His name was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before He was conceived in the womb.

This is My covenant which you shall keep, between Me and you and your descendants after you: Every male child among you shall be circumcised;

So it came to pass in the process of time that Hannah conceived and bore a son, and called his name Samuel, saying,“ Because I have asked for him from the Lord.”Now the man Elkanah and all his house went up to offer to the Lord the yearly sacrifice and his vow.But Hannah did not go up, for she said to her husband,“ Not until the child is weaned; then I will take him, that he may appear before the Lord and remain there forever.”So Elkanah her husband said to her,“ Do what seems best to you; wait until you have weaned him. Only let the Lord establish His word.” Then the woman stayed and nursed her son until she had weaned him.

Then the Lord said to him,“ Peace be with you; do not fear, you shall not die.”

Then God said:“ Call his name Lo-Ammi, For you are not My people, And I will not be your God.“ Yet the number of the children of Israel Shall be as the sand of the sea, Which cannot be measured or numbered. And it shall come to pass In the place where it was said to them,‘ You are not My people,’ There it shall be said to them,‘ You are sons of the living God.’

And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”

And she conceived again and bore a daughter. Then God said to him:“ Call her name Lo-Ruhamah, For I will no longer have mercy on the house of Israel, But I will utterly take them away.

Then the Lord said to him:“ Call his name Jezreel, For in a little while I will avenge the bloodshed of Jezreel on the house of Jehu, And bring an end to the kingdom of the house of Israel.

His mother answered and said,“ No; he shall be called John.”But they said to her,“ There is no one among your relatives who is called by this name.”So they made signs to his father— what he would have him called.And he asked for a writing tablet, and wrote, saying,“ His name is John.” So they all marveled.

But he said to them,“ Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He is risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid Him.

But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying,“ Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.”

Now Isaac pleaded with the Lord for his wife, because she was barren; and the Lord granted his plea, and Rebekah his wife conceived.

Is anything too hard for the Lord? At the appointed time I will return to you, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.”
