And the Lord was gracious to Hannah; she gave birth to three sons and two daughters. Meanwhile, the boy Samuel grew up in the presence of the Lord.

The angel of the Lord appeared to her and said,“ You are barren and childless, but you are going to become pregnant and give birth to a son.Now see to it that you drink no wine or other fermented drink and that you do not eat anything unclean.You will become pregnant and have a son whose head is never to be touched by a razor because the boy is to be a Nazirite, dedicated to God from the womb. He will take the lead in delivering Israel from the hands of the Philistines.”

Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him.Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth.Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their opponents in court.

He settles the childless woman in her home as a happy mother of children. Praise the Lord.

But the angel said to her,“ Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God.

While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them,“ Peace be with you.”They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost.He said to them,“ Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds?Look at my hands and my feet. This is my covenant with you and your descendants after you, the covenant you are to keep: Every male among you shall be circumcised.

But the Lord said to him,“ Peace! Do not be afraid. You are not going to die.”

Then the Lord said,“ Call him Lo- Ammi( which means“ not my people”), for you are not my people, and I am not your God.“ Yet the Israelites will be like the sand on the seashore, which cannot be measured or counted. In the place where it was said to them,‘ You are not my people,’ they will be called‘ children of the living God.’

She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”

Gomer conceived again and gave birth to a daughter. Then the Lord said to Hosea,“ Call her Lo- Ruhamah( which means“ not loved”), for I will no longer show love to Israel, that I should at all forgive them.

Then the Lord said to Hosea,“ Call him Jezreel, because I will soon punish the house of Jehu for the massacre at Jezreel, and I will put an end to the kingdom of Israel.

but his mother spoke up and said,“ No! He is to be called John.”They said to her,“ There is no one among your relatives who has that name.”Then they made signs to his father, to find out what he would like to name the child.He asked for a writing tablet, and to everyone’s astonishment he wrote,“ His name is John.”

“ Don’t be alarmed,” he said.“ You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him.

But Jesus immediately said to them:“ Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”

Isaac prayed to the Lord on behalf of his wife, because she was childless. The Lord answered his prayer, and his wife Rebekah became pregnant.
