Yes, sons are a gift from the LORD, the fruit of the womb is a reward.Sons born during one’s youth are like arrows in a warrior’s hand.How blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! They will not be put to shame when they confront enemies at the city gate.

He makes the barren woman of the family a happy mother of children. Praise the LORD!

So the angel said to her,“ Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God!

The LORD said to him,“ You are safe! Do not be afraid! You are not going to die!”

Then the LORD said:“ Name him‘ Not My People’( Lo-Ammi), because you are not my people and I am not your God.”( 2: 1) However, in the future the number of the people of Israel will be like the sand of the sea which can be neither measured nor numbered. Although it was said to them,“ You are not my people,” it will be said to them,“ You are children of the living God!”

She will give birth to a son and you will name him Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”

She conceived again and gave birth to a daughter. Then the LORD said to him,“ Name her‘ No Pity’( Lo-Ruhamah) because I will no longer have pity on the nation of Israel. For I will certainly not forgive their guilt.

Then the LORD said to Hosea,“ Name him‘ Jezreel,’ because in a little while I will punish the dynasty of Jehu on account of the bloodshed in the valley of Jezreel, and I will put an end to the kingdom of Israel.

But his mother replied,“ No! He must be named John.”They said to her,“ But none of your relatives bears this name.”So they made signs to the baby’s father, inquiring what he wanted to name his son.He asked for a writing tablet and wrote,“ His name is John.” And they were all amazed.

But he said to them,“ Do not be alarmed. You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has been raised! He is not here. Look, there is the place where they laid him.

But immediately Jesus spoke to them:“ Have courage! It is I. Do not be afraid.”

Isaac prayed to the LORD on behalf of his wife because she was childless. The LORD answered his prayer, and his wife Rebekah became pregnant.
