Your strength will be spent in vain, because your soil will not yield its crops, nor will the trees of your land yield their fruit.

You will work with all your strength, but it will not do you any good. That is because your soil will not produce any crops. The trees of your land will not bear any fruit.

And your strength shall be spent in vain, for your land shall not yield its increase, and the trees of the land shall not yield their fruit.

若不是永恆主建造房屋，建造的人就枉然勞碌；若不是永恆主看守城池，看守的人就枉然儆醒。

但我卻說：『我是白白勞碌的；我費盡了力量、是虛空而徒然的；其實我伸冤的權利是在永恆主那裏我可得的賞報是在於我的上帝。』

以致永恆主向你們發怒，就把天抑制着，使天沒有雨水，田地生不出土產，你們就會從永恆主所賜給你們的美地上迅速地滅亡。

我就按時給你們霖雨，地就生出土產，田野的樹木就結果子。

看哪，萬族之民只為了給火焚燒而勞碌，列國之民只為了虛空而疲乏，不都是出於萬軍之永恆主麼？

那就願這地長出蒺藜來替麥子，長出惡草來替大麥。』約伯的話說完了。

你所有的樹木和你土地上的果實、飛蝗全要取得它。

他使多結果實之地變為鹹地；都因其間居民的邪惡。

我栽種了，亞波羅澆灌了，而使他長大的卻是上帝。

你雖在栽的日子設法使它長大，在種的晨光培養它開花，但在憂患的日子、無法醫治的傷痛之時、所收割的都飛走了。

我替你們害怕，恐怕我在你們身上所勞苦的是枉費了。

你們向慕着多，你看，卻得的少；你們收到家裏，我給吹去。為甚麼？萬軍之永恆主發神諭說：因為我的殿荒廢，而你們各人卻逕為自己的房屋奔跑啊。故此、為了你們的緣故、天就停降雨露，地也停生土產。我呼叫乾旱臨到了地上山岡，臨到了五穀、新酒、新油、和土地的出產，臨到了人類、牲口、以及人手所勞碌得來的一切東西。』

你帶出到田間的種子雖多，收進來的卻少，因為蝗蟲要把它嘬盡了。你栽種修理葡萄園，卻不得收葡萄，也不得喝葡萄酒，因為蟲子要把它喫了。在你全境內、你必有橄欖樹，卻沒有油抹身，因為你的橄欖都未熟就脫落了。

你們怎麼樣？那時有人到二十斗穀堆的田地，只得了十斗；有人到酒池旁，想舀到五十窟，只舀到二十窟。

你腹中的果子、你土地上的果實、你幼小的牛和肥嫩的羊、必都受咒詛。
