‘ If a fellow countryman of yours becomes so poor that he sells part of his property, then his closest redeemer is to come and buy back what his relative has sold.

“‘ If one of your fellow Israelites becomes poor and sells some of their property, their nearest relative is to come and redeem what they have sold.

“‘ Suppose one of your own people becomes poor. And suppose they have to sell some of their land. Then their nearest relative must come and buy back what they have sold.

“ If your brother becomes poor and sells part of his property, then his nearest redeemer shall come and redeem what his brother has sold.

If one of your fellow Israelites falls into poverty and is forced to sell some family land, then a close relative should buy it back for him.

If your brother becomes destitute and sells part of his property, his nearest relative may come and redeem what his brother has sold.

Naomi said to her daughter in law,“ May he be blessed of the Lord who has not withdrawn His kindness from the living and from the dead.” Again Naomi said to her,“ The man is our relative; he is one of our redeemers.”

‘ Behold, Hanamel the son of Shallum your uncle is coming to you, saying,“ Buy for yourself my field which is at Anathoth, for you have the right of redemption to buy it.” ’Then my uncle’s son Hanamel came to me in the courtyard of the guard in accordance with the word of the Lord and said to me,‘ Buy my field, please, that is at Anathoth, which is in the land of Benjamin; for you have the right of possession and the redemption is yours; buy it for yourself.’ Then I knew that this was the word of the Lord.

But now, although it is true that I am a redeemer, yet there is also a redeemer more closely related than I.

So he said,“ Who are you?” And she answered,“ I am Ruth your slave. Now spread your garment over your slave, for you are a redeemer.”

So I thought that I would inform you, saying,‘ Buy it before those who are sitting here, and before the elders of my people. If you will redeem it, redeem it; but if not, tell me so that I may know; for there is no one except you to redeem it, and I am after you.’ ” And he said,“ I will redeem it.”Then Boaz said,“ On the day you buy the field from the hand of Naomi, you must also acquire Ruth the Moabitess, the widow of the deceased, in order to raise up the name of the deceased on his inheritance.”Then the redeemer said,“ I cannot redeem it for myself, otherwise I would jeopardize my own inheritance. Redeem it for yourself; you may have my right of redemption, since I cannot redeem it.”

Now then, is Boaz not our relative, with whose young women you were? Behold, he is winnowing barley at the threshing floor tonight.

For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, so that you through His poverty might become rich.
