Consecrate the fiftieth year and proclaim liberty throughout the land to all its inhabitants. It shall be a jubilee for you; each of you is to return to your family property and to your own clan.

Set the 50th year apart. Announce freedom all over the land to everyone who lives there. The 50th year will be a Year of Jubilee for you. Each of you must return to your own family property. And each of you must return to your own tribe.

This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD after King Zedekiah made a covenant with all the people who were in Jerusalem to proclaim freedom to them.

For I planned the day of vengeance, and the year of my redemption came.

I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the place of slavery.

“ In this Year of Jubilee, each of you will return to his property.

The Spirit of the Lord GOD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and freedom to the prisoners;to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor, and the day of our God’s vengeance; to comfort all who mourn,to provide for those who mourn in Zion; to give them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, festive oil instead of mourning, and splendid clothes instead of despair. Submit as free people, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but as God’s slaves.

For you were called to be free, brothers and sisters; only don’t use this freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but serve one another through love.

Now Hagar represents Mount Sinai in Arabia and corresponds to the present Jerusalem, for she is in slavery with her children.But the Jerusalem above is free, and she is our mother.For it is written, Rejoice, childless woman, unable to give birth. Burst into song and shout, you who are not in labor, for the children of the desolate woman will be many, more numerous than those of the woman who has a husband.Now you too, brothers and sisters, like Isaac, are children of promise.But just as then the child born as a result of the flesh persecuted the one born as a result of the Spirit, so also now.But what does the Scripture say?“ Drive out the slave and her son, for the son of the slave will never be a coheir with the son of the free woman.”Therefore, brothers and sisters, we are not children of a slave but of the free woman.For freedom, Christ set us free. Stand firm, then, and don’t submit again to a yoke of slavery.

Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.

How can you say,‘ You will become free’?”Jesus responded,“ Truly I tell you, everyone who commits sin is a slave of sin.A slave does not remain in the household forever, but a son does remain forever.So if the Son sets you free, you really will be free.

They promise them freedom, but they themselves are slaves of corruption, since people are enslaved to whatever defeats them.For if, having escaped the world’s impurity through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in these things and defeated, the last state is worse for them than the first.

If a man has no family redeemer, but he prospers and obtains enough to redeem his land,he may calculate the years since its sale, repay the balance to the man he sold it to, and return to his property.But if he cannot obtain enough to repay him, what he sold will remain in the possession of its purchaser until the Year of Jubilee. It is to be released at the Jubilee, so that he may return to his property.

saying to the prisoners,“ Come out,” and to those who are in darkness,“ Show yourselves.” They will feed along the pathways, and their pastures will be on all the barren heights.

As for you, because of the blood of your covenant, I will release your prisoners from the waterless cistern.Return to a stronghold, you prisoners who have hope; today I declare that I will restore double to you.

Any of his people among you, may his God be with him, and may he go to Jerusalem in Judah and build the house of the LORD, the God of Israel, the God who is in Jerusalem.

I hereby proclaim freedom for you— this is the LORD’s declaration— to the sword, to plague, and to famine! I will make you a horror to all the earth’s kingdoms.

Can the prey be taken from a mighty man, or the captives of a tyrant be delivered?For this is what the LORD says:“ Even the captives of a mighty man will be taken, and the prey of a tyrant will be delivered; I will contend with the one who contends with you, and I will save your children.

Whatever property one of the Levites can redeem— a house sold in a city they possess— is to be released at the Jubilee, because the houses in the Levitical cities are their possession among the Israelites.The open pastureland around their cities may not be sold, for it is their permanent possession.

They said,“ The LORD commanded my lord to give the land as an inheritance by lot to the Israelites. My lord was further commanded by the LORD to give our brother Zelophehad’s inheritance to his daughters.If they marry any of the men from the other Israelite tribes, their inheritance will be taken away from our fathers’ inheritance and added to that of the tribe into which they marry. Therefore, part of our allotted inheritance would be taken away.When the Jubilee comes for the Israelites, their inheritance will be added to that of the tribe into which they marry, and their inheritance will be taken away from the inheritance of our ancestral tribe.”So Moses commanded the Israelites at the word of the LORD,“ What the tribe of Joseph’s descendants says is right.This is what the LORD has commanded concerning Zelophehad’s daughters: They may marry anyone they like provided they marry within a clan of their ancestral tribe.No inheritance belonging to the Israelites is to transfer from tribe to tribe, because each of the Israelites is to retain the inheritance of his ancestral tribe.Any daughter who possesses an inheritance from an Israelite tribe must marry someone from the clan of her ancestral tribe, so that each of the Israelites will possess the inheritance of his fathers.No inheritance is to transfer from one tribe to another, because each of the Israelite tribes is to retain its inheritance.”

If he consecrates his field during the Year of Jubilee, the price will stand according to your assessment.But if he consecrates his field after the Jubilee, the priest will calculate the price for him in proportion to the years left until the next Year of Jubilee, so that your assessment will be reduced.If the one who consecrated the field decides to redeem it, he must add a fifth to the assessed value, and the field will transfer back to him.But if he does not redeem the field or if he has sold it to another man, it is no longer redeemable.When the field is released in the Jubilee, it will be holy to the LORD like a field permanently set apart; it becomes the priest’s property.“ If a person consecrates to the LORD a field he has purchased that is not part of his inherited landholding,then the priest will calculate for him the amount of the assessment up to the Year of Jubilee, and the person will pay the assessed value on that day as a holy offering to the LORD.In the Year of Jubilee the field will return to the one he bought it from, the original owner.
