Observe the month Abib and keep the Passover to the LORD your God, for in that month he brought you out of Egypt by night.You must sacrifice the Passover animal( from the flock or the herd) to the LORD your God in the place where he chooses to locate his name.You must not eat any yeast with it; for seven days you must eat bread made without yeast, symbolic of affliction, for you came out of Egypt hurriedly. You must do this so you will remember for the rest of your life the day you came out of the land of Egypt.There must not be a scrap of yeast within your land for seven days, nor can any of the meat you sacrifice on the evening of the first day remain until the next morning.You may not sacrifice the Passover in just any of your villages that the LORD your God is giving you,but you must sacrifice it in the evening in the place where he chooses to locate his name, at sunset, the time of day you came out of Egypt.You must cook and eat it in the place the LORD your God chooses; you may return the next morning to your tents.You must eat bread made without yeast for six days. The seventh day you are to hold an assembly for the LORD your God; you must not do any work on that day.

“‘ On the fourteenth day of the first month is the LORD’s Passover.And on the fifteenth day of this month is the festival. For seven days bread made without yeast must be eaten.

So the Israelites camped in Gilgal and celebrated the Passover in the evening of the fourteenth day of the month on the plains of Jericho.

A Passover like this had not been observed in Israel since the days of Samuel the prophet. None of the kings of Israel had observed a Passover like the one celebrated by Josiah, the priests, the Levites, all the people of Judah and Israel who were there, and the residents of Jerusalem.This Passover was observed in the eighteenth year of Josiah’s reign.

“ This month is to be your beginning of months; it will be your first month of the year.Tell the whole community of Israel,‘ In the tenth day of this month they each must take a lamb for themselves according to their families– a lamb for each household.If any household is too small for a lamb, the man and his next-door neighbor are to take a lamb according to the number of people– you will make your count for the lamb according to how much each one can eat.Your lamb must be perfect, a male, one year old; you may take it from the sheep or from the goats.You must care for it until the fourteenth day of this month, and then the whole community of Israel will kill it around sundown.They will take some of the blood and put it on the two side posts and top of the doorframe of the houses where they will eat it.They will eat the meat the same night; they will eat it roasted over the fire with bread made without yeast and with bitter herbs.Do not eat it raw or boiled in water, but roast it over the fire with its head, its legs, and its entrails.You must leave nothing until morning, but you must burn with fire whatever remains of it until morning.This is how you are to eat it– dressed to travel, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand. You are to eat it in haste. It is the LORD’S Passover.I will pass through the land of Egypt in the same night, and I will attack all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both of humans and of animals, and on all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment. I am the LORD.The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are, so that when I see the blood I will pass over you, and this plague will not fall on you to destroy you when I attack the land of Egypt.This day will become a memorial for you, and you will celebrate it as a festival to the LORD– you will celebrate it perpetually as a lasting ordinance.

You are to observe the Feast of Unleavened Bread; seven days you must eat bread made without yeast, as I commanded you, at the appointed time of the month of Abib, for at that time you came out of Egypt. No one may appear before me empty-handed.

Now on the first day of the feast of Unleavened Bread the disciples came to Jesus and said,“ Where do you want us to prepare for you to eat the Passover?”

Clean out the old yeast so that you may be a new batch of dough– you are, in fact, without yeast. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.So then, let us celebrate the festival, not with the old yeast, the yeast of vice and evil, but with the bread without yeast, the bread of sincerity and truth.

Now on the first day of the feast of Unleavened Bread, when the Passover lamb is sacrificed, Jesus’ disciples said to him,“ Where do you want us to prepare for you to eat the Passover?”

“ The Israelites are to observe the Passover at its appointed time.In the fourteenth day of this month, at twilight, you are to observe it at its appointed time; you must keep it in accordance with all its statutes and all its customs.”So Moses instructed the Israelites to observe the Passover.And they observed the Passover on the fourteenth day of the first month at twilight in the wilderness of Sinai; in accordance with all that the LORD had commanded Moses, so the Israelites did.It happened that some men who were ceremonially defiled by the dead body of a man could not keep the Passover on that day, so they came before Moses and before Aaron on that day.And those men said to him,“ We are ceremonially defiled by the dead body of a man; why are we kept back from offering the LORD’s offering at its appointed time among the Israelites?”

Moses said to the people,“ Remember this day on which you came out from Egypt, from the place where you were enslaved, for the LORD brought you out of there with a mighty hand– and no bread made with yeast may be eaten.On this day, in the month of Abib, you are going out.When the LORD brings you to the land of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Hivites, and Jebusites, which he swore to your fathers to give you, a land flowing with milk and honey, then you will keep this ceremony in this month.For seven days you must eat bread made without yeast, and on the seventh day there is to be a festival to the LORD.Bread made without yeast must be eaten for seven days; no bread made with yeast shall be seen among you, and you must have no yeast among you within any of your borders.You are to tell your son on that day,‘ It is because of what the LORD did for me when I came out of Egypt.’It will be a sign for you on your hand and a memorial on your forehead, so that the law of the LORD may be in your mouth, for with a mighty hand the LORD brought you out of Egypt.So you must keep this ordinance at its appointed time from year to year.

Then the day for the feast of Unleavened Bread came, on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed.

In the first month, from the fourteenth day of the month, in the evening, you will eat bread made without yeast until the twenty-first day of the month in the evening.For seven days yeast must not be found in your houses, for whoever eats what is made with yeast– that person will be cut off from the community of Israel, whether a foreigner or one born in the land.
